Shaylee Kraft Tiger Lily This is a fantasy fiction chapter book about what life was like in Neverland before Wendy came along. In the story of Peter Pan, Peter and Wendy fall in love. Before this ever happened, Tiger Lily and Peter were in love, or at least she thought. The story is told by Tinkerbell, the narrator. Tiger Lily was only 15 years old. She never believed in love or happy endings, but everything changed the moment she met Peter. Tiger Lily was fascinated, and grew feelings for him as soon as they met. She spent so much time with Peter and the Lost Boys that they became very fond of Tiger Lily. She wasn’t the prettiest, but they liked her brave and adventurous spirit. Before anyone knew it, Peter and Tiger Lily shared their first kiss and were officially in love. Tiger Lily is now risking everything. Back in her own village, she is supposed to be marrying one of the men in her tribe, even though she is disgusted by him. With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers are doomed. Then the arrival of Wendy Darling teaches Tiger Lily that the most dangerous of enemies can live inside even the most loving hearts. I think the author’s personal life affects her writing. Anderson has a lot of stray pets that she’s welcomed into her home, which tells me that she has sympathy for outsiders. Tiger Lily was quite the outsider in the story of Peter Pan, and not many people paid close attention to her. She brought peace to our hearts by telling us the story of Tiger Lily and explaining why she is the way she is.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Usually when reading chapter books, I get bored and lose focus on what the book is really about. Something about the way Jodi Lynn Anderson writes keeps me drawn in the entire time. I thought it was interesting that the story is Told from Tinkerbell’s point of view and not from Tiger Lily’s. I think Tinkerbell knows Tiger Lily better than she knows herself. I also really liked at the very end of the story when Peter sends a heartfelt letter to Tiger Lily. You’ll have to read the book to know what the letter said. Overall, the aspect that I enjoyed most about this book is that Jodi Lynn Anderson made a very relatable character out of Tiger Lily, being a 15 year old girl who’s starting to make decisions on her own. She was able to give us a pretty food outlook on her life, even though Tiger Lily wasn’t telling us herself. As a reader, I felt like I was sitting with Tinkerbell listening to the whole story. Even though this book had no personal affect on my life, the book is definitely one to remember.
After reading this book, I would definitely recommend it to teenage girls. It tells the life of a teenage girl who was an outsider in a classic Disney story. The main character’s thoughts and feelings are expressed in an unexpected way, but that’s what makes the story so intriguing. It story keeps you on the edge of your seat, and wondering what’s going to happen next. The ending is what I think readers will enjoy the most. I suggest this book to teenage girls because you start to develop feelings for the main character. I’m sure lots of girls can relate to some of the experiences Tiger Lily is going through. I don’t really think guys would have much interest in the book, although it’s also very action filled and there are some fight scenes. So, if you haven’t yet read this book, I suggest you check it out and start reading!
