Who is getting in on this?
You still have a few days to get your hands on the books by Robert Sawyer..... It's totally worth a read, and I am sooo excited about this show!

message 2: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 16, 2009 10:22PM) (new)

i dont know if i will watch it or not i am just hesitating at this point but maybe i will give it a try and see if i like it or not, like Lost, i used to hate the show, but then i decided to give it a try and watched and liked it , so maybe i will love this show too

message 3: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) I can't wait for FlashForward!! My excitement for the premiere is second only to Fringe tonight.

I read the book a few months ago - pretty interesting concept. In the show they only flash forward months, not years. And it clearly isn't going to be set at CERN.

Has anyone done the Mosaic interactive thing yet, where you hold up a symbol to your webcam to get a 3-d interactive thing/game/ad?

message 4: by Lori, Offical Lost Lover and Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
I dont have a webcam (awwwww...) so I cant do that.
And yeah, the show is going to be a little different than the book, but even if they just keep some of the stuff the same, it looks like it could be great!

And hello, the writers and creators of Lost have their hands all over it, so it's bound to be a mindfuck!

message 5: by Hilary "Fox" (new)

Hilary "Fox" (foxhill) I put Flashforward on hold at the library, so hopefully I'll have a chance to read it extra quick before the show kicks off. Is the show considered an official tie in to Lost? I've heard it described as a "Companion Piece" at some point so...

message 6: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) I haven't read/heard that it's officially a tie-in to Lost, but it must pay homage to it. I saw this still come across my twitter feed earlier today, and it made me chuckle: http://bit.ly/Jl33g

Might be fun looking for connections!

Wow Cindy, thanks for posting that. I watched the 18 minute preview... I cannot WAIT for the real thing to air......!!!

Yee hee!!!

message 8: by Lori, Offical Lost Lover and Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
It's not a Lost tie-in. It's based on a book by the same title. But it does have Lost creators behind it, so it should be a lot of fun to watch!!

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
Two more days! I cant wait!

i just checked the schedule, and i am going to have to watch flashword on abc.com because i have class till 8:45 and i will be home in time for greys anatomy..

message 12: by JSou (new)

JSou One...more...day...

Yay! You know on Friday morning I'll be racing back here to see what you guys think!!

Survey says...??

I liked it! Nothing like the book, so I have no clue where they are going with this. I mean, some little bits are the same, but the meat of the storyline has been so tampered with, I am hooked just to find out wtf is going on!!

Favorite line:
"You only have to worry about ONE penis, I have to worry about all of them."

My kids liked it. They are trying to guess who or what caused it. Already looking forward to next week!

Do you see who all was cast from Lost? Penny, Cassidy, and Charlie will all be in it. (not to mention the lead FBI guy could be Richards brother!)

message 14: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22)
I'm starting it in 13 minutes ... so I can't read your post Lori, I'll check it out tomorrow!!!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah i knew there was some resemblence to that guy and richard

message 16: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) I really liked it! Clearly high production values.

I noticed in the credits, there was no mention of Robert Sawyer or the book.

Also, Nicole (the babysitter) plays Jane, Roger's trophy wife in Mad Men.

I think some of the changes are very clever:
Having the blackout happen early morning pacific time, means most of the world was awake. In the book the US was mostly asleep.

I also really like the possibilities of the AA sponsor's storyline, that his daughter might be alive.

I think the TV show has captured much more of the worldwide devastation than the book.

Fun!

message 17: by JSou (new)

JSou I saw a quick flash of Robert J. Sawyer in the end credits saying it was based on his book. It looks like it's gonna be good!

There were a lot of changes from the book, but I'm really looking forward to next week and more about "Suspect Zero".

And, what's up with the kangaroo?

message 18: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) I loved that kangaroo! He brought that surreal quality of a dream or hallucination to the 'reality' of the whole experience ... just when the guy thought he was getting himself together, bam, kangaroo!

Was the AA sponsor one of the Irish brothers in 'The Brothers' on HBO or Showtime??

The show is going to be re-played tonight! I want to watch again ... What did you think of that person/being on the video that did not black out?

message 19: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Yeah, suspect zero was such a surprise! Especially because he didn't look at all freaked out that every soul in the baseball stadium was unconscious. And he was dressed all in black. I wonder where he was going - he only had 2ish minutes, or did he know that?

What did you guys think of the very long teaser at the end of the episode? It was the longest preview I've ever seen for a show's upcoming season. It certainly got me excited for the season, but I hope they didn't reveal too much?

message 20: by Alex (new)

Alex | 57 comments ok, I LOVED IT!!!!! at one point in the show when they were photograph stalking the lady the billboard on that building was oceanic! i don't know if you caught that or not, also, the 3 starred arm guys are prolly the ones who didn't blackout, and you know how his partner didn't have a flashforward? I bet its one of those who didn't blackout, i bet he will become a double agent possibly! thoughts?

message 21: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Alex wrote: "at one point in the show when they were photograph stalking the lady the billboard on that building was oceanic! "

AND it says at the top of the billboard, "Perfect Safety Record", which means that Oceanic 815 never crashed. The alternate timeline in Lost is happening...

(btw, here's the link I posted way back when showing the billboard in case anyone else missed it: http://bit.ly/Jl33g )

message 22: by Alex (new)

Alex | 57 comments NICE, good catch

message 23: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) I totally missed that ... but I did catch that suspect zero was (or seemed) much taller than anyone else yes??
I'll watch it again tonight ...

message 24: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) I saw the poster but I cannot see the clip, they've stopped it...damn

Seriously GOOD catch!!!

Wow Cindy!! *_* I spotted the Oceanic billboard, but didn't catch the "Perfect Safety Record". That is HUGE! I got chills when I read that!

message 26: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Oh, I really can't take the credit... The same Oceanic ads were played at the Lost panels at Comic Con.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfoqYm...

Suzanne: They probably pulled the clip because the whole first episode is now online:
http://abc.go.com/watch/flash-forward...

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

thank god its on again on abc, i watching it now, i am amazed its as good as Lost, and i think it might have something to do with lost, because right before the flash, i noticed a billboard of oceanic if anyone picked that up..but its awesome

message 28: by Lori, Offical Lost Lover and Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
Gene, that is what the last so many posters have been discussing.

Im glad to hear everyone have a good first impression! I am really excited about this.. looks so promising! And yes, Suspect Zero... so not in the book... I am dying to know who he is.

Alex, I disagree about the star arm guy, I think he is just 'in the know' but I dont think he was awake during the flashforward. I think he is the guy who will eliminate anyone who gets close to the truth of it tho.

As for the partner with no flashfoward... Im confused. Did his girlfriend say she saw him, and that it was their wedding day that she flashed to?

message 29: by Hilary "Fox" (new)

Hilary "Fox" (foxhill) His girlfriend did say that, but who knows.. maybe she was lying to make him feel better ;)

message 30: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Lori wrote: "As for the partner with no flashfoward... Im confused. Did his girlfriend say she saw him, and that it was their wedding day that she flashed to?"

I think they only said that in the sneak-peek for the upcoming season - we haven't met his fiance yet. Maybe she's lying? Or she was asleep and having a dream in the future (since the flashforward was a night)? Or he's a sleeper agent like Alex suggested. (Great/crazy idea - hadn't thought of that!)

I didn't catch it last night, but John Cho's character is named Dimitri. If you've read the books, that's important. Not that they're following the book at all!

message 31: by Suzanne (last edited Sep 26, 2009 09:13AM) (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) Watching it again last night, way more commercials, husband noted that it's now 'the big hit' so lots of money to be made ...
The poster wasn't even readable on my T.V. (smaller screen, no HD :(
So thanks to you guys I saw it!!!

What did you think of the comments telling us the important clues to remember at the commercial breaks??

message 32: by Lori, Offical Lost Lover and Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
Cindy, at the end of the first ep, he was on the phone with her, and she said it over the phone. Im pretty sure that is what she said.

Remind me which one was Dimitri, wasnt he the main guy from CERNS partner?

message 33: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Aaah, ok Lori.

OK, I'm losing my marbles. I was thinking of Theo - the Greek guy.... probably since Theo didn't see anything in the future either. Sorry folks!!!

Oh, and in the book no recording devices worked... always struck me as silly. Glad to see the TV show righted this.

***********Spoilers*************

So Olivia knows Lloyd, Lloyd doesnt know Olivia, The kids know each other and the kid knew Olivia...

D Gibbson (?) the woman is not the one they should be looking for b/c Charlie says its a him and he's bad...

I like that he burned the bracelet... wonder what will come of it!

message 35: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) I liked that they added a few moments of levity, with Courtney B. Vance's character describing his bathroom shenanigans. I always liked those moments in Lost (Hurley and Sawyer, especially), and in Fringe.

Some of the writing felt off... especially Lloyd Simcoe telling his son about his mother's death. His character feels affected somehow.

I totally agree with you Lori about the bracelet. I think it's going to be interesting and fun to see what aspects of the future the characters try to change to see if the future is immutable or not.

message 36: by Alex (new)

Alex | 57 comments in lost im sure you picked up on the quote of "you can't change the future, you can try but the universe self-corrects itself" i'm sure that will be true because i bet she'll make another one for him once she notices it is gone, he will realize this and keep destroying it and come to realize there is nothing to do to change the future, and I also thought the producers did do a good job in showing that the sheriff died and she didn't have a vision... but i really think that they could've waited a couple of weeks to inform whats his face that he was going to be murdered

message 37: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) When did he burn the bracelet??! I was so engrossed, but that doesn't mean anyone(or any living creature) in the house pays attention to that!!!

WHAT DID DYLAN SAY TO LLOYD WHEN LLOYD TOLD HIM HE LOVED HIM???!!!!
I replayed that twice and CANNOT understand what that child answered ... DAMNITT

Alex, it does seem like they are moving very quickly through the info ...

message 38: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Suzanne, he said, "I want to see Olivia." da da dum!

One other thing that kind of bummed me out about this episode was that we didn't really get to see any new flashforwards... just a few more details on the ones from last week. I was hoping each week we'd get a new one or two to mull over.

message 39: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) Thank you SO much, Cindy!
You are right about the flashforwards, this show is even enthralling in its quirkiness!
What do you think about Lloyd not recognizing Olivia??!
That was bizarre!!!

message 40: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Suzanne wrote: "What do you think about Lloyd not recognizing Olivia??! That was bizarre!!!"

In Lloyd's flashforward, he happened to not be looking at Olivia during those 2 minutes. First he was in the bedroom looking at his cell phone, facing away from Olivia in bed. Then when she walked out on the landing, and said something to him, he didn't get to fully look at her before the flashforward ended. Pretty odd. And what was the phone call/message? He looked fairly grim on the couch. Looking forward to finding that out!

I'm curious how Dylan knows Olivia, and Charlie knows Dylan AND D. Gibbons, but not Lloyd. I guess we don't know yet if Dylan knows Charlie. Geez, we're going to have to make a Venn diagram or someother geeky, complicated map to show who saw whom. I can see why Mark is going to revert back to alcohol to make sense of it all!

Cindy, you are really good with all the names.. I have forgotten most of them :)

I remember things from the book that I wont share here for fear of (a) them not coming true in the show, or (b) ruining things for someone....

However, I agree that it would be nice to see some new flashforwards each week to try to allow us to pc together what is happening 6 months from now....

message 42: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Lori wrote: "I remember things from the book that I wont share here for fear of (a) them not coming true in the show, or (b) ruining things for someone...."

Almost like you had a.... flashforward? kidding! Since so much of the show is different than the book so far, it seems it won't follow the mythology. Which is good, it'll keep us guessing!

About the names... thank goodness for IMDB and TV.com! In real life I'm horrible with names. I wish I could come home from a party and have a database to match the faces and names!

message 43: by Lori, Offical Lost Lover and Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 880 comments Mod
Hahaha! I hear you about the names!
And god help someone if I mix up names, It takes me forever to get the straight once I screw them up!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

i recognized some of the actors from different shows, and one of them is from 24, the lady toward the end of the show, and there is another one from 24 on fringe next week

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

i just heard that flashfoward might be as long as 2 years and its very similar to the tv show Lost

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

looks like i will be watching flashfoward friday nights, that is when i watch mine because ABC has been showing the repeats of the episodes after they were aired new on thursday nights.. well at least i am able to Fringe thursday nigths

Thanks Gene for keeping us to speed with the show recaps....

**spoilers*****

uhm. huh. Well, The murder of crows threw me for a loop. I was right pissed with the old German man for pulling a fast one, until Mark made the connection.

The cute partner of his... with the sleepy eyes (whats up with that? Is that an effect, or does she have a serious need for no-doz?)... she is getting me all down. As with Fringe, and Xfiles, I see the whole stable partner to balance out the whacky partner scenario being played out... however, she is starting to irk me. Truly.

I felt bad for Marks sponser, the guy with the bad beard... poor dude pulled his daughters dead body of the ground to get a positive DNA on her... so someone explain his flashforward....

And damn Dmitiri for lying to his Fiance. Another one where I need some explainations... how is she getting married? She didnt see his face, so is it possible that she is marrying someone else, so soon, in such a short amount of time?

And the annoying sleepy-eyed partner... not pregnant now, but pregnant big time in 6 months???? something is not quite lining up for me here....

I am interested to see how it all plays out!

message 49: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Good news, ABC has picked up the back 9 episodes, so FlashForward will be around for the full season! It's not a surprise as its ratings have been solid, but still good news!

You're totally right, Lori, about all of it. But specifically Dimitri! Seems there are many moments on the show so far, where I'm scraming "Just talk to them, or ask the question already!" Lost suffers from this as well: characters not talking to each other and asking the most basic of questions. If I were Dmitri, I would have been bugging my fiance for every single detail, so I could sort out my possible murder.

message 50: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) Here's a few other awesome tidbits for you:

In the latest TV Guide (sorry, I couldn't find an online link) there was a short piece that mentions:
1) Sonya Walger (she plays Olivia) voices the show's animated kids' character Squirrelio
2) Robert J. Sawyer is writing episode 17!!
3) Don't look to the book for answers to the TV storyline. The exec. producers said that "We plant plenty of Easter eggs from the book -- names like Demetri, references to the science -- but at this point, we are evolving on our own path."

(note, this post was moved from the Fringe folder, cuz I'm a ditz.)
