Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Like them both! What's the story behind the friendship symbol?

message 13: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
It's some sort of Zibu symbol (really not sure what that means in it's entirety but my and my friend have been wanting to get matching tattos forever but never could agree on anything. She is more girly then I and we don't like the same things (opposites attract) so she found this symbol and it makes sense.

Irene, My scars consist on what my girls gave to me during birth. I can't figure out what sort of tattoo to get for them but now maybe I won't. I will just use my scar as their symbol LOL

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Donna, this thread is great! My family and friends think I'm a little crazy (what else is new/old), but I harbor a secret desire to get a tattoo. I just want something small and in an inconspicuous place. I always had a mermaid because I love mermaids so, but after seeing your little book, I can't believe I never thought of that. Hey, maybe a mermaid reading a book? One of these days, I might work up the courage to do it.

It looks so much better now that the swelling went down. Now I can't wait until it fades a lil bit. It is just too dark for me.

I'll keep that in mind.

LOL. I thought it was nice and original.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I always get a tattoo for something important in my life and they are all very personal and original.

I love the mermaid reading a book Kathy. I say go for it! Your body is your temple and you should decorate it how you please.

Donna, on kids I saw one a girlfriend of mine got after the birth of her son; it was the infinity symbol on her center upper back with her astrological sign in one loop and her son's in the other. Simple and very good looking.

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Hey, I wanted to mention a non-fiction book I bought last year but haven't read yet entitled Tattoo Machine: Tall Tales, True Stories, and My Life in Ink Tattoo Machine Tall Tales, True Stories, and My Life in Ink by Jeff Johnson by Jeff Johnson. He is a tattoo artist. The book has mermaids on the front and back, so, apparently, a mermaid isn't a tattoo only I covet. I was thinking that in buying this book, I must really want to get that tat. Oh, and while teaching an English class a few years back, one of the writing prompts I had the students (high school) do was on what kind of tattoo they would get if they were to get one. Some interesting answers. What was especially interesting about the assignment is that some of the kids were so rigid in their thinking that they told me that getting a tattoo wasn't something they would do. I informed the students that I wasn't advocating for them to actually obtain a tattoo and encouraged them to use their very active imaginations. It's getting bad when the teacher is more open-minded than the student.

I really want to get another tattoo but I don't know if it is ever going to happen. I have thought of designing some calligraphy that contains all of the kids names. I'd love it if my wife and I got the same one.

My and my husband got matching ones. It looks sorta like this but more rounded and while his is solid min it an outline with a hint of red.

Oh and it means "13" in Maya. We started to date on Friday the 13th and he is from Guatemala and I studied Mayan Culture so it all made sense!

I love that someone else likes the number 13. My father was born on a Friday the 13th, and I've always considered it a lucky day instead of an unlucky one. Sounds like it's been lucky for you, too, Donna.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Neat Donna! I like the number 13 too; I have a tendancy to stick up for things and people others don't like, LOL
