Please come here to post about your blog or podcast! Professional and hobby book reviewers, podcasts, and other genre-related web-based content creators can share their creations here.

Please note that like with other creatives looking to promote in our group, discussion of your work must stay in this folder, and this thread should not be updated more than once a week per company, website, and/or creator. Please see the "everything you need to know" thread for more information.

Additional note: This post is not for author blogs, unless the author is blogging about things that are not related to their book writing (ex. are also book reviewers, essayists about the genre etc.)

Sarah | 3189 comments After a long hiatus I’ve finally brought my blog back to life -

Mostly my book reviews (which are also transferred over to GoodReads if you are friends with me here), upcoming new book releases, Jurassic park and Vikings are thrown in once a week, maybe a bad monster movie here and there...

But that’s it! It’s mostly focused on SFF but I read across all (okay most) genres.

D.G. Post (dgpost) | 60 comments I think I might have posted about this in the wrong place (sorry if I did!), but I’ve recently decided life is short and I should follow my passion while I’m still here, so have begun posting in two online journals / blogs: “Beyond Language’s Reach”, the theme of which is sci-fi and science- or “real world”-related stuff, and “Spinning Yarn”, where I will be exploring topics more to do with fantasy, the supernatural, magic, and so on.

Anyway, if you're interested and looking for something else to read, feel free to drop by :-)

message 12: by JediFonger (last edited Sep 17, 2020 08:16AM) (new)

JediFonger greetings sf/fantasy community!

i am starting a brand new classic science fiction literary podcast! i've got 1 other cohost right now . we are ready to go!

we will be covering golden age 30s-50s and beyond classic lit, short, stories, novels, series. i already know you like reading, but if you are like me and love to chat about it and do not have that outlet in your real life with friends (who are not interested in sf), then you've found the right place! the format will be conversational and informal like friends around the campfire, previous experience is not required, but we want to make sure you have a headphone at least and potentially a decent microphone.

please direct message me if you are interested in becoming a cohost with us. we plan to release something once a month depending on how long it takes to read the shorty story or novel. once we get started then maybe we will be asking for guests, but at this moment, i'm looking for a regular cohost.

as best as i can tell, no such podcast currently exists specifically devoted to classic sf lit.

here is my other podcast that i've been hosting for almost a year plus now for kind of the feel of what we are going for except that it is about classic sf lit:
https://anchor.fm/watchingsilentfilms

thanks for reading this and looking forward to chatting ya'll!

S. Kaeth (skaeth) | 15 comments I'm not sure exactly where to put this, but it is a review site, so I hope this is ok.

Indiecember is going on, and if you're participating, you might be looking for indie books to read. Because tastes vary so much it can be hard to find something you like.

IndieStoryGeek.com has a visual review system to make it easier to find the book you're in the mood for, directing readers back here to Goodreads and to Amazon for reviews and purchasing. It's got nearly 500 self-published, small-press, and web serial stories of various genres including a bunch of sci-fi and fantasy. More reviews will adjust the story shape that's generated, and will help readers find a book that fits their mood.

Full-disclosure: this is my site, so it's also self-promo, but the design is simply to highlight wonderful indie books.

message 14: by Alina (last edited Dec 03, 2020 01:01PM) (new)

Alina Leonova (alina_leonova) | 47 comments About a month ago I started a blog. The motivation was quite personal: I realized that most of the sci-fi I read was written by men, and I decided to discover more sci-fi by female and other non-male authors. The idea is to read books written by famous and indie / self-published authors and review them. I'm also planning to do some author interviews with the authors whose books I've read. There are not so many posts yet, and the famous authors I've reviewed will be nothing new to the members of this group, but I'm pretty sure most indie ones will be unknown to you. (I do post an occasional microstory of my own, but that's not the key focus of the blog).

If that's something you might like, you are welcome :). If you are a sci-fi author who isn't a man and want me to review your book, feel free to contact me (I've got some books on my list, but if your book looks interesting, I'll buy and review it!).

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Mods aren't complete idiots. We can remember if you've posted the same thing over and over, even if you keep deleting the previous one. Reposting regularly looks a lot like spamming. We are not friends of spammers. Please don't spam! Please be active in the group, talk about books, make friends, and people will be happy to look at your site, even without the constant reminders.

Anyone else have a book blog or Booktube channel? :)

D.G. Post (dgpost) | 60 comments www.otherspect.com

Just a hobby project. Mostly crap. Content varies. Sorry again for mentioning it the wrong thread; I was just trying to introduce myself, say a bit about what I do for fun. And if this is again the wrong spot due to the fact that it is not exactly a “book” blog (though I have in the past made the occasional post about books I’ve read), feel free to just delete this post / kick me out / whatever you have to do.

message 29: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 280 comments I have a blog nearly ten years old called The Book Hammer. It started out as a review / critique / writing craft blog but has evolved into a blog about whatever pisses me off - in a fairly light hearted manner.

I can at least guarantee that there is little or no self-promotion (of books) on the site.

https://adriandeans.wordpress.com/

There is a bit of a mystery re this site which someone might have insight into... I wrote a piece some years ago called Life Theatre: Breaking the Sixth Wall https://adriandeans.wordpress.com/201... This article has been clicked on literally thousands of times and barely a day goes by without it being accessed. Yet no-one has ever left any sort of Like or comment on it. I can't help but wonder whether it has somehow been colonised/weaponised by a scammer.

message 31: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy | 1 comments Hey all! In my spare time, I worked on a project to rank the top science fiction and fantasy novels of the past 50 years using sci-fi/fantasy awards data.

https://medium.com/@cassidybeevemorri...

I set off to answer the question of whether an algorithm could generate a more definitive (more objective) list of best authors, books, and series. It's not perfect (books are subjective after all), but hopefully entertaining nonetheless. (And can help you find some good recommendations for your TBR shelf!). I pruned through over 3,000 books and a dozen different awards.

The article is already published on Medium, you can read it in its entirety now. There is no pay-wall, as this project was a labor of love -- and I simply hope people get some enjoyment out of it.

Check it out and let me know what you think:)

@Cassidy,
The labor of love definitely shows. I've thought often of finding such a ranking and was delighted to see your article. Thank you for the hard work on it and for presenting it so beautifully with a perfect blend of science and art. ❤️

message 35: by Kaili (new)

Kaili | 39 comments Wow, Cassidy! I really enjoyed reading your article!
I appreciate that you took the time to explain your process thoroughly and with care! It is clear to see all the time, effort, and love you put into this project. Thank you so much for completing it and sharing it with us!

message 36: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 280 comments Great work Cassidy. I was amazed to note that I'd read nearly all the top ranked books from the 70s, a handful from the 80s, and only a couple from the following 30 years.

I have quite a lot of new books on my TBR list.

message 37: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 280 comments I'm usually an author of crime novels (even though I love sci-fi) but have my first sci-fi novel coming out later this year.

For that reason, I've been ruminating a great deal over the last few years on what makes great sci-fi so here is the first of my muses on science fiction.

https://adriandeans.wordpress.com/202...

I must say that if there is a weakness in my ideas, it is probably due to the fact I have not read everything published in the last 30 years. I am currently addressing this weakness and will blog about more recent books in a future muse.
