I think there was a woman in the cover, staring directly at the reader. The main character had a boyfriend or a husband but she still wanted to have dinner with her former teacher!

Beatrice, did you read this somewhat recently (i.e. this year?)?It sounds kind of like My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell.
A student(Vanessa Wye) has an affair with her English teacher (Jacob Strane) in 2000. In 2017, Nessa sees Strane again, hearing that he's under charges for sexual abuse by a former student.

Hi to both of you and thank you SO MUCH for trying to help me out!Unfortunately I didn't read the whole book, but only the first chapter as a sample, that's why I can't give you guys much info about what happens in the novel...
The year range is probably 2011-2014. I am sure it was a new release because I was able to read a promotional sample of it.
Oh, and I read it in italian, so it must be a book that has been translated and published also in Italy!
