I thought that somehow, at worst, she’d be recognized. The attempted abduction came out of nowhere for me, as did Jani’s betrayal! I had to rewind the book to make certain I’d heard it correctly.
Both the abduction at the train station and Jani's betrayal took me by surprise. I did not see either happening there. I expected something, but not at the station and what an awful way for Liam to learn the truth about Mena.
I expected the abduction - in fact, I was waiting for it. It was set up too perfectly not to happen in my opinion. I remember thinking I read a few things that foreshadowed it, but I can't remember the exact words/scene now. I did not however, foresee Jani's role & betrayal.
I knew something would happen at the train station because Mena said she had a bad feeling. Thus I was waiting for the attempt to abduct her. Like Karen, I was shocked and disappointed at Jani's betrayal because I thought that he had reconciled his feelings toward Liam.
While I liked Jani and understood his reasons for betraying Liam, it kind of annoyed me that he got off so lightly. He could have killed Liam after all.
I thought Mena would be immediately recognized by someone at the train station and taken into custody. I was surprised by the abduction.I wasn't really surprised by Jani's actions. It just felt like he had unfinished business with Liam and he was waiting to make his move. Getting information from Hamish would have sent him in that direction.
