I read a sci fi novel back around 1995 or so, it was a sci-fi with some western overtones (like a Firefly type of motif). The story focused on three gunmen/outlaws.
They were a group that was somewhat well known and infamous for their adventures, and were broken up by the time the events in the novel began. One of them becomes associated with a mysterious woman who sort out starts him on a “get the band back together” type mission. A fair amount of flashbacks to the good old days of their adventures, in which they were just as much villains as anything.
In one bit one of them pilots or navigates a spaceship, he can only do this because he has some brain implant or genetic alteration or something.
I thought the title had the word Gunmen in it, maybe Apocalypse. Googling “Gunmen of the Apocalypse,” just led me to an old episode of Red Dwarf. 😝
