Just a place to kick back and talk.

Sans | 722 comments I'm looking at my 'in progress' topic and...most of my nearly 300 series in there are not in progress. They haven't even been started. That's both hilarious and eye opening. I can't decide what I should do.

Make some hard "are you actually going to read this?" deleting?

Keep only the series that a) already have some books read and b) I own, and/or have active holds on at the library?

Move the non-owned, non-library held books to my 'on hold' topic?

Leave it alone as a basically full list of the series on my TBR?

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I would choose a combo of all of the above but the last one. :)

We could do a series to start folder. Leave the in progress for just that and/or series we legitimately want to start soon? Mine is crazy long for this reason too.

I could legitimately make Goodreads crash with my list. lol. I would just add every book ever.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I'm proud of my restraint with my in progress or whatever shelf. Of course it's literally been only 24 hours but if this works out I'll do it for my other shelves too. lol.

Haha my profile TBR already tries to do that when I go to sort it.

No I am barely through adding Bs of series' I have yet to start and it's already a ton of series I have yet to even read the first book of. But that I hope to. I think maybe separating the in-progress from the Someday I'll Read these or something.

So if I was to make a folder for future series to start that are on our TBR what should I name it?

Future Books
Future Book Dates
Someday I'll Read
Hopeful Starts

....

Only thinking of doing this if at least 1 other thinks it is a good idea and might join me (at least in part). I don't want to make a whole folder just for me. Thats weird lol. But was already kinda thinking this and then San's comment has me thinking maybe it could help

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I like Someday I'll Read.

I would make a folder!

message 10: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments That would also be a great place for me personally to put the manga I started and then never got to finish due to translation issues. ^_^

I do watch a lot on rescue dogs. I have to avoid too many puppy videos or I end up wanting one more than usual. Can't afford more lol.

lol. It does make me want a puppy but I have trouble caring for the one I have now! Definitely won't be getting one for a couple of years at least.

You got a lot done though! It's looking good! I hope you are getting some rest right now!

message 19: by Sans (new)

Sans | 722 comments Thank you! I slept until 11 (got up at 7 to feed the cats though, they'd never forgive me for making them wait longer than that!) and I feel so much better today. Yesterday was just weird-bad and putting my books into order helps my brain to filter through whatever's bothering me.

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday (or Monday, depending on your time zone)!

Organizing books (or just about anything) helps me at times too. Hope today is a better day for you!

Sans | 722 comments Jamie, I love how both of our lists have these huge blocks of Star Wars material!

And I'm doing much better today! It was weird I was ok Friday morning then something happened, I have no idea what, and my energy plummeted along with my mood. It's finally recovering today. It's been super busy at work and people have been stopping by my cube CONSTANTLY to talk and I think I just got overwhelmed. I needed yesterday to shut myself away and reset mentally.

It's weird how people can effect our mental state. Or just utterly drain us.

And YES for Star Wars. Bad part is I know I read more than I have marked but really don't remember much. Way too long ago. So I got some re-reading to do.

message 23: by Sans (new)

Sans | 722 comments I'm a cat grandma! Cory had at least two kittens this morning (maybe more, we didn't want to disturb her too much) and I'm stuck at work for the next 3 hours. All I want to do is go home and check on them, make sure everyone is ok. XD

message 24: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 2554 comments Mod
Aww...kittens! Congrats. Hope mama and babies are doing well.

message 25: by Sans (new)

Sans | 722 comments They are! I counted 5 possibly 6 babies when I got home tonight. She let me scratch her chin a bit but didn't want me near her kittens (totally understandable and a very good sign), so I backed off and left her with some fresh water and her dinner. I wanted to bring them all inside but she's just not an indoor cat. I compromised by shutting the shed door tonight and will open it again in the mornings.

I'm going to have to clean up back there (there's some blood spots and other fluids that can attract predators) and see if I can get her to the second nesting box we have, it's bigger and there isn't birthing mess in it. So many things to think about but have to remember she knows what she's doing and doesn't REALLY need my help.

message 26: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 2554 comments Mod
Good for the mama! Yeah cats are self sufficient with their young. Sometimes they'll even clean up the fluids and blood themselves (much like they clean the kittens) so you may not have to do much.

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments Jamie, I think I might have thought of a fun challenge. You know how in pick it you give shelves and such. What if instead, you gave authors? So like someone could list 10 authors and then someone could pick any book from that author? Does that work?

I'll talk it over with Sans for a future month. I don't want to change more for the current one but that isn't a bad idea. :)
Were you thinking of switching that out for picking a series specifically? Or in addition to that?

message 29: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (last edited Feb 18, 2020 03:27PM) (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I thought switching it would work as a change to the series. Make it more challenging in a way. ^_^

message 30: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (last edited Feb 18, 2020 03:31PM) (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments Ooooh another thought! Similar again to the pick it. What if you did a mystery one too. So like instead of listing and having people choose it would be more like each member would message you 3 books they like and maybe 2 they aren't sure about. Then each person who was picking it would choose between 1 and 5 and you would then tell the original person the option they get?

Less sure of this one as to how to make it a group challenge but we can talk I will talk to over with Sans. We just have to be careful completely changing that particular challenge as it is one some auto-signup for and changing it that much means I have to cancel doing that. But we'll talk about both, maybe do some polls in March to get a feel for everyone's preferences or something. :)

Thanks for the ideas though. I know we were also playing with a fanfic concept and I was debating how to maybe incorporate author threads for any completions we may have so it helps to get these ideas flowing. :)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments Yeah. Just hit me out of the blue. I keep trying to listen to music and read skip beat. Not really working. Just distracts me a bit.

message 41: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments In some ways, I'm not as good at defeating it because I have been feeling so good lately. Ruby and the sun have helped me so much. They are not a cure though. :(

Jamie | 2554 comments Mod
Try to find a soothing scent. Lavender or Lilac. Or an herb like rosemary, marjoram, etc. That can sometimes help the out of the blue anxieties for me. Might help you. Candles are great or even just a few sniffs in the spice cupboard. Seriusly, strange as that sounds it can sometimes (not always) help a bit.

Turn on your light too (especially if its an overcast day!).

I'll try to buy some of that tomorrow. Sadly have nothing I can do tonight as my light is in my mom's room and Ruby is asleep. Plus honestly I'm scared to use it because we think the current here ruined my mom's waterpik. I'll continue listening to my music and hope it helps my funk.

Skip beat is also helping. I'm at the part with the Dark Moon cast party.

I don't know if I got the right one but I downloaded a similar one and it actually did help a bit. The narrator for the meditation was really good.

message 47: by Sans (new)

Sans | 722 comments I doubt this will help at all, but CBD or hemp oil help me when my anxiety starts to get the best of me. Veritas Farms has a hemp oil roller for relaxation that smells divine and helps calm me down.

message 48: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 988 comments I could try that. I have always been hesitant about CBD because it was illegal until recent years. :)

Kai Charles(Fiction State Of Mind) (fictionstateofmind) I'm glad the meditation worked, Keep at it!
