Hugo & Nebula Awards: Best Novels discussion

Hi everyone! Happy to announce that we thought of a new game to introduce to our members. We will be playing multiple rounds over a span of a couple of months, so everyone will get a chance to participate in it and get a chance at winning a prize. So here goes, our new game:

A Writer's Dozen.

a) Any member picks a pool of 12 words, on the general theme of Sci-Fi or Fantasy (the person picking the next dozen of words may also limit the words to a specific kind of fantasy or scifi):

forest dagger glass giraffe
bus transporter gravity chrome
napkin tool quality continuum

b) Group members, using a single one of the words (not more than one otherwise the creative types will knock out 5-6 words in one shot) person A writes a sentence or a paragraph(everyone can do it, just a simple sentence qualifies as an entry! (E.g. "Giraffes!" exclaimed John.)It would also be helpful if the used word was in bold (to make the text bold use following format <b> TEXT </b>).

c) Then person B continues the story where it was left off by person A, picking a word from the list of the remaining words.

Etc, etc.

*code for striking out words is <s> TEXT </s>

It would be a lie to say that Donovan was beginning to get used to the frantic pace they were going at for the last twenty minutes, though his insides stopped rattling around his gut and he started to suspect that not every organ returned to its original place. The back went numb altogether and he could not feel his arms for the last five minutes. The creature he was riding, one resembling a crossover between a giraffe and a red horn but covered in scales, showed no sign of fatigue.

The next person continues the story using the remaining words. The goal is to use all the words and weave them into a coherent narrative.

c) Once we reach the last two or three words the participants should try their best to wrap the story up.

d) When we are close to finishing the list of the words, members are welcome to open a new thread with the next batch of words. (In case of double passing we will go in the order of first posted, first served.)

The game goes on until we've exhausted the list of the words. A new batch of words is created and we go on to the next round. After a few rounds we will have members vote on their favorite story, rewarding the members that participated in writing it.

If it turns out interesting enough as a complete story, definitely!

Thanks a lot to everyone participating in the trial run we had going this week. Everyone seems to get the hang of it and all the posters did amazingly well. I will keep the trial Round 1 open for a couple of days in case anyone wants to try their hand in it.

On Friday the official game will begin, with the chances of winning a cash prize! Everyone is welcome to join and have fun.

Seems like our scifi story is shaping up pretty well, feel free to just jump in guys!
