I kind of saw that as the same sort of thing Disney does where they insert jokes that go right over the children's heads, but keep the parents who brought them watching the movie.

I mentioned this in my review but thought it might be worth discussing here. I felt like the way it was written was intentionally similar to the way the book Dracula sounds - i.e. letters from Harker.

It's funny to me how many people think they are so familiar with the Dracula story, but have not actually read the real book. It's wonderfully written.
