Louise | 590 comments Hi there, welcome to the group!

We are a group for readers of all genders who wish to broaden their reading horizons by reading more books by women authors. And more women authors that perhaps people haven't heard of before.

Here are some quick recommendations on how to get started.

1. Introduce yourself to the group. Our introduction thread is here, say hello, and tell us a little bit about yourself.

2. Discuss your favourite authors, ask for recommendations, and just talk books. Our Read Women Chat folder is free for anyone to post new discussion threads or chip in on any of the existing ones.

3. Join in nominating and discussing our Group Reads. Every month the group reads two books nominated and voted for by members. Our main monthly group read follows a different theme each month (e.g. Classics, Sci-Fi, Translated Fiction, LGBT etc.) with the odd 'Open Choice' month. And our second group read alternates between a non-fiction book, and a book in a different country as part of our group Read Around the World Challenge. Nomination threads are posted near the start of a month, and polls go up towards the middle. Joining a group read is completely optional, but for the sake of keeping discussion threads active, we do recommend that you don't vote for a book in the polls unless you plan on joining the discussion if it wins.

4. Browse our yearly/quarterly/ongoing challenges. For existing challenges, please follow the instructions in the challenge thread on how to create your own challenge. Or feel free to start up a new challenge in the Challenge Folder. More on challenges below.

5. Have fun!

Louise | 590 comments Group Folders—what goes where?

Announcements - This where important information is posted for ease of reference and any mod announcements are made. It is also where the monthly nomination threads are posted.

Currently Reading - This is where the discussion threads for our current monthly group reads go.

Read Women Chat - The main discussion hub for anything written by women. Introduce yourself here, join the active discussions, and make recommendations. Feel free to start your own threads here if nothing existing matches the topic you want to discuss.

Challenges - For challenges that haven't grown big enough yet to spawn their own folders. Feel free to join any of the challenges here, or to create your own. The '2020 Readwomen Challenge' also has it's own widget if you prefer to keep track that way.

2020 Women in Translation - This challenge offers a place to focus our 2020 reading on reading women in translation. Create your own thread to track your progress and use the main thread to discuss and ask for recommendations. This challenge also has a widget if you prefer to track progress that way.

Quarterly Challenges - For our more focussed quarterly challenges. Every three months we pick a selection of themes or settings and encourage people to read within that theme. Check out the main threads as they are posted for information about what the challenge is and how to join. Widgets are also set up for these each time.

Read Around the World Challenge - A folder to set up your personal read around the world challenges and keep track of your travels. A widget is also available to track progress that way.

Previous Reads: Group Reads - The archive of discussion threads for previous group reads. All threads remain open so anyone can weigh in with their thoughts even after the group read is over.

Previous Reads: Non-Fiction - The archive of discussion threads for previous Non-Fiction group reads. All threads remain open so anyone can weigh in with their thoughts even after the group read is over.

Previous Reads: Read Around the World - The archive of discussion threads for previous Read Around the World group reads. All threads remain open so anyone can weigh in with their thoughts even after the group read is over.
