Amanda (amandaquotidianbooks) | 50 comments I'm on the lookout for books with Death as the narrator or protagonist, or a major character.

I loved The Book Thief all the more because Death was the narrator. I also know of the Discworld books with Death.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure about narrators but On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony has Death as a protagonist. The Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman has Death as a major character and she's amazing.

But you can't really beat Terry Pratchett's Death series.

There's also some Paranormal Romances with Death as a character. Grave Witch The Alex Craft series being among them.

This doesn't really answer your question : ( But I hope it helps!

Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 672 comments Good Omens - Pratchett and Gaiman. Death is in it, but not main character.

Jonathan Hickman's East of West is AWESOME and Death is the main character.

Hesper | 85 comments Some others that haven't been brought up yet: Death with Interruptions, Death's Master, Keturah and Lord Death.

Kevin | 701 comments Gaiman's and Pratchett's versions of Death are the obvious ones here. For lesser known examples I can only think of 2 comics: Death Vigil #1 by Stjepan Šejić, were Death chooses people who died a noble death and recruits them in her fight against ancient Eldritch horrors. and Pretty Deadly, Vol. 1: The Shrike by Kelly Sue DeConnick, which doesn't have Death, but his daughter as the protagonist in a Weird West setting.

Phil On The Hill (philonthehillexon) | 263 comments Yes, but it is a good theme. And as Terry Pratchett has just gone to meet the person in question it seems only fair to bring it up.

Joe Informatico (joeinformatico) | 888 comments Amber Benson (best known for playing Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) wrote an urban fantasy series about Death's daughter, as she works her way into the family business.
