Megi-kg | 8 comments Probably polish book, quite long, about 1000 pages. Story about man who is living for several hundreds of years - his immortality had something to do with christianity. Story takes place in medieval Europe, man joins crusade to the holy land.

Did you read it in Polish? Do you know it was translated into English? About what year published? If you don't know, what year did you read it?

message 5: by Megi-kg (new)

Megi-kg | 8 comments Yes, I read it in polish, approx 5 years ago, I think this book was made not earlier than in 80's, but I may be wrong. I don't know if it's translated into other langugages or if it was originally polish book. There is also possibility that book is titled after main character's name.

``Laurie (laurielynette) This reminds me of the medieval legend of Prester John, who was supposedly the immortal Apostle John, author of the book of Revelation in the Bible. Some believed Prester John would still be living at the time of the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Was Prester John supposedly immortal? I don't know much about the legend. All I know is that John Buchan, author of many spy novels, wrote a book with the title Prester John that takes place in Africa. According to the Prester John wikipedia page there are several modern novels that related to him:

Tad Williams' trilogy begins with The Dragonbone Chair.

Baudolino by Umberto Eco.

And from 1930, War in Heaven by Charles Williams.

Hi Megi, could the book possibly be one written by the Polish author:

Henryk Sienkiewicz?

Or maybe even Zoé Oldenbourg ?

A few of Oldenbourg's novels were translated into English around the 70's and 80's so maybe you're thinking of one of them?
The Heirs of the Kingdom is a great book you might enjoy reading.

Hang in there!

Kaion (kaionvin) | 388 comments Not Polish and not 1000 pages, but I this sounds exactly like Laurus. It made some waves when it was translated into English, so I imagine it might have made it into Polish as well.

Here's the Google Books preview of Laurus by Evgenij Vodolazkin - Kaioh's suggestion - https://books.google.com/books?id=Aeu... There are different cover images.
