Erik walked slowly to the ruins. His red hair blowing wildly in the wind. He grabbed a stone and crawled to the top. His eyes widened at the sight of the ruins. It was awe striking and beautiful. He stood there for a little bit and then he looked down. He picked up a loose stone and threw it to the water below. God it made him miss home. He wanted so badly to see his family again. He was sick of this place. Sick of being stuck here.
A girl with curly, reddish brown hair walked through the ruins. An unreadable expression was on her face. She was wearing a blue blouse, with a black under breast corset that flowed into a black skirt. She sighed as she gazed around the ruins, she sighed. My home has been lost. And it use to be so beautiful too. She thought as she walked by a body of water. A splash occurred, water spraying onto her. She yelped frightened by the sound movement and her irises ringed with a blowing blue.
Erik snapped out of his thoughts and looked up. "I thought no one else was here. Sorry I got some water on you." He said apologetically. He was starting to prepare himself to run by gathering his things. The last time he had made conversation, a red card or whatever that was, couldn't understand him and let out a scream. His army came and started after him. Erik wasn't sure about her. She seemed half way normal. Maybe she was like him.
She gazed up at him, obviously surprised. She shook her head slightly and her eyes went back to their usual greenish blue, the electric blue dissipating. "It's quite alright, you aren't from here are you?" She then asked in a soft and melodic voice, quite different from the other accents that could normally be found in Wonderland. It sounded almost like it belonged in these ruins, like it matched the style of it. She noticed how antsy he was and tilted her head slightly. "Calm yourself, I don't bite." She said in light voice as she gazed at him.
Erik noticed her eye color had changed. Weren't they just electric blue? He shrugged off the thought. He had pretty good eyesight and noticed a lot about people. "No. You can tell?" He asked her. He was glad she spoke his language. He was relived that she didn't consider him his enemy. He still was unsure though. Could she trick him?
"Well you look as if you've seen a ghost, plus your clothing, accent, and I've been around long enough to be able to tell a human from a Wonderlanddian." She replied. Nicolette gazed at him and sighed. "it's ok I'm not a heart not white spade." She reassured him. "I'm not like most of the others." she added.
"Well then...next time I should be less obvious." He said as he dropped his bag. He raised an eyebrow. "So you aren't a murderous card that goes crazy and tries to kill nor you are a fairy who tugs hair. Fair enough. Are you a partial human?" Erik asked. He wasn't sure what she exactly meant but he tried to make reason out of it.
Nicolette laughed lightly and shook her head as he asked if she was a murderous card or a fairy. "No flat enough to be a card not small enough to be a fairy and last time I checked I don't murder nor pull on hair." She replied with a gently smile. "And I'm not a partial human. I'm an original Wonderlanddian, but I'm also something else." She said and then turned and gazed at the ruins before them. "Do you know who the Blue Spades were, or at least have you heard of them?" She asked before continuing. "They were the third kingdom in this realm. You are standing in the ruins of this once magnificent kingdom. The hearts destroyed them and the few that survived fled to the white spades. Though it's said that the youngest daughter of the queen and King survived the attack and survived."
Erik was relived as she told him that. He nodded as she asked him about the Blue Spades. He listened to her story and then finally understood what she was saying. "So you must be the daughter of the King and Queen." He said with his accent becoming much thicker of the Irish Heritage. Most times he wouldn't even notice he was slipping into the accent.
Nicolette didn't say that she was or wasn't. It didn't matter who she was because the Blue Spades were no more. Though she listened to his voice and heard his accent change, though she didn't recognize its origin. "What is it?" She asked vaguely not specifying that she was talking about his accent. She avoiding the topic about her parents, not wanting to confirm his suspicions.
Erik raised an eyebrow. She didn't know what she was talking about. "Um- you mean my accent? Or-" He paused, waiting for her to say something. He wasn't sure if that was what she meant. He was confused why she didn't tell him if she was or wasn't the princess. He had a feeling it was something no one should talk about.
"Yes, I mean your accent, were you trying to hide it earlier or is it false?" She asked as she gazed at him, her blue eyes, seemingly staring straight through him. Erik's feeling was correct. No one even spoke of the kingdom let alone the fallen royal family. The Red Hearts had set out a bounty for any possible Blues, none of the remaining survivors were found and eventually it was forgotten. However, if word of the last descendant of the royal family was alive, she would be as good as dead.
Erik shook his head. "My heritage is Irish. I normally don't notice when I slip into it. The only time I do notice is when someone points it out to me. My mother was Irish but my father was American." He said truthfully. He looked at her, into her eyes. They were the most brilliant blue he had ever seen.
In truth Nicolette really didn't understand. She was aware of the different countries above but didn't know their names. "Oh ok." She said simply and stretched. She gazed back into his eyes and smiled gently. "Well I like it, it's lovely." She replied and her eyes got ringed with an electric blue again as her true form pushed to get out.
Erik smiled. "well-uh-thank you." He said with an awkward grin. He noticed her eyes change colors again. "Did you know you're eyes change color?" He asked as he watched closely.
"Yes I'm aware. I'll show you why they do that." Nicolette replied and shifted into a Raiju, or a Lightning beast. She gazed at him with intelligent electric blue eyes and look very similar to a large fox. Of course in this form, she was unable to communicate with him.
Erik's eyes widened. "Woah! You still won't kill me though right?" He asked with a little bit of suspicion. this place has made him almost way to paranoid for his own good.
Nicolette nodded, trying to say that she wouldn't kill him. She let out a long canine yawn and stretched again before nodding towards him. She then shifted back, more accustom to her human form, though still liked her Raiju form. Her eyes were still ringed will the electric blue, but slowly eased back to normal. "That's why my eyes change. I'm what you would call a Raiju similar to a shapeshifter and lightning bird, well almost." She said with a shrug.

Once a kingdom as powerful as the Red Hearts, the Kingdom of Blue Spades is now nothing but a ruined shell of its former glory. Formerly allies with the White Kingdom, it was years before the new war began when the Red Kingdom attacked and laid ruin to the prosperous kingdom. Defeated, those who survived fled and moved on to their closest ally, the White Kingdom. For years, the whole area was isolated and left to rot and ruin until the exiled began to live in secret among the rubble. Anyone can freely come and go within the kingdom as it has been abandoned and no gates guard it any longer. Some outcasts though have decided to make their homes within the ruins in despair for a place to stay. And then there are the occasional ghost stories lingering here and there.
