Refugee discussion

This book had so much suspense that I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. In the story, a Jewish boy named Josef was living in Germany in the 1930's when the Nazis and Hitler took over. Months after his father was sent to a concentration camp, him and his family were forced to leave Germany and go to Cuba. In 1994, a girl named Isabel was living in Cuba when Fidel Castro ruled. Because of riots and the police wanting to arrest her father, her family had to leave Cuba on a makeshift boat with another family to go to Miami. In 2015, a boy named Mahmoud lived in Syria when Bashar al-Assad ruled. There had been fighting against the rebels and the Syrian army for years, and after his house was bombed, his family decided to leave Syria and go to Germany. All of these families were trying to escape their countries and make it to their new destinations safely. I liked all of the suspense in the story, and how all of the character's stories were connected in some way. But, I disliked how a character's story would just cut off, and the author would move on to a different character. It made the book feel very disjointed, and sometimes boring. Overall, I would rate this book a 3 out of 5.
