Hello, I want to help with your request, but I have a few questions and clarifications I need to ask of you first.Firstly, I gather from the above that the book has in fact been distributed as an ARC with this cover? If so, has it been only in this format (hardcover) or other formats as well (either physical or digital)?
Secondly, is it only the hardcover edition that will be distributed with the new cover, or are all editions currently with the old one to be changed to the new?

Hi Alex. There's a paperback ARC that has been distributed, which is the only version that has the old cover. The cover was redesigned, and no subsequent versions of the book will feature that old cover. So yes, all editions currently listed with the old cover (hardcover, kindle, ebook) should be changed to the new. Likewise with the audiobook version, which currently has no cover image.
Thanks, Alex!
The book has been distributed in an advance paperback edition with this cover, in a limited print run for promotional purposes only. No other editions have been printed, and no future editions will be printed with this old cover. The actual hardcover edition, which will be the first retail edition and the official US first edition, will have the new cover and will be published in March. HarperCollins is anxious to get the old cover replaced with the new one in all digital platforms ASAP.
I'm so sorry, that seemed very aggressive. I hadn't even seen the second post, I was just indicating to you and to other librarians that I was in the process of making the necessary edits so we don't end up working on the same thing. :)

Just one more thing about the ARC edition: when was it first distributed?
Actually the ARC (Advance Reader's Copy) shouldn't be listed at all--it was only for promotional purposes, is not for resale, and is not available. Neither I nor HarperCollins wants the ARC listed. It's not normal to list ARCs, is it?
Actually, GoodReads does list ARCs, most frequently in these sorts of cases, where an ARC edition has a different cover than the later published edition. This is what policy states, however, if you are intent on having it removed, I would suggest contacting the GoodReads Staff Here:https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...
Ted wrote: "Oh, I see. Let me think on whether I want to pursue that. Thanks again so much for your help!"Oh, and hey, Alex---I notice when I do a search for the book, there's another listing that comes up, listed as "The Keepers: the Box and the Dragonfly." Has a blank cover. Looks like maybe somebody created another listing?
Sorry I couldn't do as you preferred, GoodReads is organised reader-centrically and such policies reflect that.As for that other book, that was an automated record, sent to the other Ted Sanders profile. By the way, just in case you were not aware, your author profile is under Ted^^Sanders, where each ^ is a space, so you need to put those spaces in for a book to be put into your profile.
I've moved the books that were mistakenly under that default to yours. I've also edited the titles to follow GoodReads title/series policy.
Since you're still deciding on whether to try and have the ARC deleted, I was wondering if I could trouble you for that publication information again? I figure it might as well have a complete record for however long it remains on the site.
Thank you for your patience, I know I've taken quite a while to get through your request.
No problem. You've been very helpful.I see the paperback listed here now:

That's actually the International Edition (copies in English to be sold abroad)--any way to indicate that?
As for the ARC, it was first distributed in August 2014. But I wouldn't want that added if it's going to change how the book's "first released" status shows up. And it may be that my editor will want me to inquire about getting the ARC taken down anyway.
Listed the paperback as the International Edition, as requested. I just assumed when I was editing it, but that is the cover that edition will be distributed with, correct? Also, sorry, I hadn't noticed you'd already filled the publication information in for the ARC, so I needn't have asked for it. As for the "first released" status, that is a different field that will be completed with the date of its first publication, so you needn't worry about it, I believe.
Whether the record is deleted or not, now it is complete, so it won't be an issue outside of that decision.
Is there anything else I may have missed?

I think that's everything. Thanks once again for getting things figured out for me, and have a good night.
Ted wrote: "Thank you. I assume it's the same cover. It's a mysterious edition to me, frankly."I looked online and haven't been able to find any evidence to ensure that this is in fact the case, so I've reverted the cover update, and you should be able to upload whatever cover is decided on.
It was no problem whatsoever, have a good night!
As a final note, during my investigation, I discovered some editions that hadn't been added to the site yet, so I took the liberty of doing so.Kindle Edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

FYI Alex, policy on ARCs is to either leave the publication field blank or to put the official publication date of the first edition. Putting anything else in that field will cause the original publication date to revert, incorrectly, to the earlier ARC date. Plus it's almost impossible to really determine when an ARC is released. They're usually distributed in such small volumes over a period of time that 'publication date' is a useless metric for them.I have removed the pub date from the ARC edition and reset the original publication date for March 3, 2015.

currently shows the ARC cover, which is not the final version. Could you change the cover to the one shown here, which is the final version for publication?
