This was an exceptional start to a series!
When I saw this book at the library, I recognised it was of the many books this year that most people loved. Yet I didn't feel drawn to it. So I left it.
But coming home I read reviews about the book and most people loved it, the world building and the mystery behind it.
So when I returned I decided to borrow it. And boy I am so glad that I did!!
I loved this book! It was beautiful, I loved the scenery that kept playing in my mind, I loved the idea of a 'carnival' being used as a fantasy that manipulates your reality. Making you believe that what the characters see and do are not real but are meant to be real.
So what is this book about? It's about surviving an abusive father, the love of sisterhood, the mystery of secrets and the secrets' secrets. It's about changing the fate of two sisters and maybe finding more along the way
We are introduced to two sisters, Scarlett and Donatella, or Tella. Both them live with their father who is a powerful and cruel governor. Cruel ever since their mother vanished from their lives. And since then they have been forced to live under the strict and watchful eye of their father. They've been punished for each other's actions ever since then.
But there one hope is escaping their home and going to 'Caraval' to experience magic and adventure and to perhaps meet the creator of this magical adventure, Legend
And they get their chance, through Julian, a sailor who happens to be passing by and agrees to take the sisters to Caraval. But things turn out differently once Scarlett arrives on the island. Her sister is missing and it's up to her and Julian to find her before time is up.
But to do that, they must find her before the other participants do. Tella's kidnapping is part of the game but Scarlett does not care about the game anymore and wishes her sister to be returned safely. However, she must find her, using the clues that is given before fifth day is up.
And thus, we are thrown into the life, Magic and craziness of this game. It was such an unique journey to go through.
So many secrets are revealed and kept hidden throughout most of the book but don't be fooled when a secret is revealed. Nothing is ever as it seems. There was so many twist around this book that it will force you to devour this book all in one go!
Such a delightful and well thought out book! Truly wonderful and magnificent! I cannot wait to see how far this series will go!
