April 2020 Nominations
I nominate The Travels of Jamie McPheeters by Robert Lewis Taylor. Father and son take off cross country for the 1849 gold rush.
I nominate Morgan's Run by Colleen McCullough, about the life of an English prisoner driven to the first penal colonies in Australia in the 18th century. I may not have posted correctly, please forgive my newbee mistake.
I nominate The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure. This is the fascinating tale of an architect in Paris during World WR 2 whose brief is to design hiding places for Jews that will never be found by the invading Nazi officers. This story becomes more gripping with every soul hidden and every life saved.
I nominate Fatherland by Robert Harris. According to the synopsis, the story follows a Berlin detective named Xavier March after Hitler wins WWII.
I nominate Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar, being the fictional “memoir” of a Roman emperor, it certainly meets the criteria of a make protagonist, and the book is a classic as well. :)

by Gretchen Jeannette"
Do you know if this story is more than 75% from the male pov? The blurb suggests it alternates and is not primarily male pov.

I'm nominating The Gods of Gotham by Lynday Faye featuring Timothy Wilde as a member of New York City's first police force.
How about Michael Kenneth Smith series on the civil war starting with the first bookHome Again
all three books can be read as stand alone but I think this is the first in the series all three are excellent, well written and historically accurate.

Seconding this one.
I will nominate Doc by Mary Doria Russell. I've had this on my shelf for a million years (or at least it seems so) and Doc Holliday is such a fascinating guy, I would love to read this finally! This totally has nothing at all to do with my forevercrush on Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday either*. :P
*That's a lie. It's totally that.

I've been eager to read this, but I don't think it's fiction.

I haven't actually counted this one yet. I'm still waiting for someone to help me determine if it meets the criteria. All of my research suggests it doesn't as the story isn't told from a primarily male pov.

I'll second Doc. No offense to Val Kilmer, but the narrator of Doc, Mark Bramhall can out cowboy Sam Elliott. That's swoonworthy ;)
Oil and Marble, by Stephanie Stormy. A marvelous novel revolving around the Masters of the Renaissance, primarily Michelangelo and his impeccable carving of David. Leonardo Da Vinci plays a large role in the story as well.
