Thank you for setting this up, Rosemarie! For those who want to join, let me know when you'd like to start. I can start this month, or I can wait until March. Either way is fine with me. :)
Thank you Rosemarie, & also to Eileen for suggesting this. I would prefer to read it this month if others agree.
Yes, I'm fine with starting it this month. I'll shuffle my books around since Lonesome Dove is still on my list of books to read this month, lol. Or maybe I'll postpone that book and read a shorter western for this month, ha! After my cousin told me about this book, I really wanted to read it!

I forgot to ask you when you want to start, Eileen. I could start reading it this weekend, or do you need another week to finish other books first?
Hi Trisha, I just started last night, so let's go for it. I get the feeling this is a book that I'm going to get really engrossed in. Already, I feel some elements of Tea Girl, Island of Sea Women, and A River in Darkness.

I haven’t read as much as you, Eileen, but it’s a wonderful book so far. I’m glad you suggested this one.
You can probably catch up. I'm not reading it today (discipline!) or tomorrow, but will pick it up again on Monday. The characters are very richly portrayed. So interesting! This would make a great movie!
I'm on page 216, but I forced myself to stop and didn't read it at all this weekend. Tomorrow is busy so I will probably pick it up again on Tuesday or maybe Wednesday. I don't mind extending it out because I'm enjoying it so much!
I read quite a bit of it yesterday & reached the end of Book 2, Chapter 17. Mine is a Kindle version, now at 61%, so I think I must be a bit ahead of you now Eileen. I’m enjoying the book, though parts of it are very sad. I can read a different book before continuing. Jenny, do join us!
Yay! I really had to discipline myself to stop because it was so engrossing. I will pick it up again tomorrow. Today I'm planning on reading Red White and Royal Blue for a bit of lighthearted fun, ha!
I'm in for sure, I'll start later this evening! For right now, I am stretching out in my bed and getting some glorious sleep to start off my 4 day weekend!
Jenny wrote: "I'm in for sure, I'll start later this evening! For right now, I am stretching out in my bed and getting some glorious sleep to start off my 4 day weekend!"That’s good - enjoy your long weekend. Hope you like the book.
Oooh, a 4-day weekend sounds like a great opportunity to read this book! I didn't read any yesterday so I could tutor for 9+ hours, lol. But I'll pick it up again today or tomorrow. I'm really enjoying it so I don't mind stretching it out a bit! That said, I should finish this weekend.
No worres, Trisha! I'll aim to finish this weekend and we can discuss the book. I forced myself to stop and read other things, but I get the feeling when I pick it back up, I'll probably binge the rest, lol.

Okay, my review!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Trish, I ended up giving it 5 stars, although the official rating is 4.5 stars. There were definitely a few places in the last part where it seemed to drag. But I thought the ending was beautiful (and sad), and overall, thinking about the book just made me want to visit with some of the characters.

Your review is beautiful, Eileen. I agree with you & thought Book 1 was the best part - a straight 5 stars with no hesitation at all. It raised interesting questions about where we belong. After that, there were some parts that seemed dull by comparison & that spoiled it for me a little, which is why I gave 4 stars. I don’t think I will read this again as I felt that part of its success was not knowing what would happen to characters I cared about.
I am about a quarter through the second book, and am really rooting for Sunja and Kyunghee to do well at their new found job, and for Yoseb to realize Sunja is not bad and for Isak to be released from jail. This has been a really good book so far, I'm really glad I joined y'all!

I'm glad you're enjoying the book, Jenny! I felt exactly the same way about the beginning of the second book. Overall, the book is kind of grim, and yet you see the enduring spirits of some of these characters. It's quite moving!
I am at Part Three now... I kinda stalled out for a while, what with finally having some time off to clean, and doing some projects and catching up on sleep. I am hoping to finish maybe when I am off again this week...
Oh wow, I no longer have Apple TV (I just canceled a trial), but I will be curious how this turns out!
