Alani skipped past the cotton field, smiling. It had never been this good for her, but she was watching a girl and a boy flirt. Ew! she whispered as someone waved to her. Her friend. “Hiya!” They said, raising up from the cotton field. Alani waved back. She went into a space, where it was alone, nobody could see her, and she prayed. “Please hope District 11 wins the 6th Annual Hunger Games.” She prayed, while whispering, then picked up a stick. She threw it, and it hit the ground with a thud. Alani laughed. “Maybe I’ll be in the Hunger Games next, and win!” Alani wished.

Alani sat down, and put up her hair in 2 buns. She looked at the Screen.

Alani looked disgusted at Trent. But, he did do it for survival. She felt bad, though. But she wanted to be in the games so badly! More flirt, blah, blah, blah..until she heard Carter. “Finally! Kill someone, for gods sakes!” She said, but not too loudly. She looked at Maisie. “Maisie, come on girl, you can do it!” She cheered. “Win for District 11!” Alani cheered. Of course the girl couldn’t hear her..but she thought she did.

Mathia raced home with a basket full of herbs. Her mother, one of the few district 11 doctors, had a patient who needed medicine quickly. She raced into her house and up the stairs and into the closet where her mother kept the medicine and the supplies for making it. Glancing at her mother's notes, Mathia began to turn the herbs into medicine.
