In “Amelia Lost: The Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart” by Candace Fleming the complete truth about Amelia Earhart’s life is uncovered. The book not only depicts her as just a female pilot, but also a savvy businesswoman. It chronicles her life from early childhood to adolescence and up to when she disappeared. Amelia’s life was filled with many people, all of whom were important in becoming who she had been. Everyone from her alcoholic father and loving sister, her first teachers, and her husband. The story is told through multiple stages of her life and moments from her disappearance. There are also pictures all throughout the book, showing how Earhart was during that specific time period. Earhart’s husband at the time of her disappearance was actually married when they first met and they shared the first leg of her cross-country trip to California. Earhart’s first woman pilot teacher was twenty-four year old Neta Snook who was described as a very determined and not very tolerant towards immaturity. Amelia Earhart herself was described as imaginative, educated, and a very determined woman when it came to getting what she wanted, but she was also arrogant and stubborn. The parts of the book concerned with Earhart’s disappearance only went up to when they terminated the search. All different perspectives were given on her disappearance. There were the people who thought they heard her on the radio, her radio correspondent, and all of her friends and family. The theme of this story is not to act too quickly when making a decision and to think things through. This is also what I learned from the story, it could have been because of Earhart’s rash decision making skills that she disappeared. I liked this book a lot because it really showed a different side to Amelia Earhart, her life, and how other people affected her way of life. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
