They dated for a while, until one day, after Mikey was asked to speak out to the class, he simply disappeared without a trace. There was a lot of confusion as to where Mikey had gone, but hepopped up a few minutes later. He was sent home immediately, and his parents received a letter a few days later demanding his presence at the Institute and explaining the unfortunate incident with the natal vitamins. Brendan was terrified of what Mikey had 'become', and broke it off. Mikey was devastated, and it drove him further to shyness. When he arrived at the Institute, he discovered more about his powers, and became sort of in control. Mikey even managed to make a friend - a bismuth girl by the name of Nikita - before too long.

For the people that have managed to do so, Mikey is a fun person to be around; witty and quick with a joke, playful and easy to talk to. Mikey can get a bit worked up at times, but he's usually pretty easygoing. For those who haven't managed to drag Mikey out of his shell, he's very reserved, to the point where several people don't even realize he's there. It's especially hard for Mikey to hold normal conversations with people because of how his hair changes, as it always ends up showing how he truly feels about someone. Mikey is a huge nerd, and though he isn't ashamed of being one, it takes a lot of prodding for that side of him to show through his shyness.

Mikey can be extremely goofy when he makes sweet or romantic gestures (usually some sort of poem or encouraging quote all his own), and it all serves to add to the charm. He's very open with his romantic partners, and although he's a bit hesitant to make the first move, when Mikey falls in love, he falls hard.
