#ClassicsCommunity 2021 Reading Challenge discussion

So, I finished this book and I loved it so much. I wasn’t expecting it to be so funny, it was just amazingly written and tragic.

I feel a wave of accomplishment finishing this. And I am planning on also reading The Hunchback of Norte Dame this year at some point too

yes, this book is big but the story is incredible.

I read this book when I was 19, and I just remember being so sad at the end, because I knew I would never have the same reading experience of reading that book for the first time again. I really loved it, and it was the first time I had really loved a book like that as an adult.

So I have been apprehensive about reading this again, for this reason, but maybe one day I will try it again, as it was just such a great story.

I just started reading Les Mis.

Is there any schedule, I would like to join.

I am 1/2 way through the book and I like it. I just feel like he could have done with a really good editor.

Yes, great, great story. reread last year.
Parts, particularly descriptive chapters, could have stood some editing, but many will say just adds flavor,

I'm currently reading Les Mis and it's amazing! I'm only a quarter of the way through the first volume (I'm reading the wordsworth classic edition) and I love it.

The Thenardier's are insufferable though ugh

I'm reading with another group this classic novel, and I just finished Book Two of Part Two, or 27% of the book. I expect to finish the book in late May (It is a quarterly read for the group and I have up to the end of June to finish the book). I'm reading the Norman Denny translation and sometimes I would refer to the Hapgood translation for comparison. I enjoy Victor Hugo's writing through Norman Denny's translation, but occassionally when I'm confused about a sentence, Hapgood's translation will help to clear up the confusion.

I just finished the book. I still think he needed a good editor. Hugo over explains things, and really that is my only complaint. I loved the chapters where he discusses his characters and moves the plot along. I am very glad I read the book.

That's very fast. Did you skim over or skip over some sections, or did you try to read every word?
