I came here to post this.Confession: Any time I talk to someone deeply entrenched in fanfic culture I have to go take some time to look up terms on the internet. It makes me feel insanely old. And I used to read HP fanfic on LiveJournal! But there is a very distinct language inside that fanfic writer culture.

Have to say that this interview punched me in the heart a couple of times. It put all of the fun, pulpy angst in GtN in a new light and made me wonder how much personal pain the author was channeling into her work.
Apropos Gideon the Ninth related stuff. The Tor.com re-read today provided a link to an older article: The Making of a Cavalier: Meet the Actual Rude Lesbian Swordfighter Behind Gideon the Ninth
Ah. That'll be Julie D'Aubigny. French opera singer, duellist and nun-kidnapper. She's featuring in a new novel called The Devil's Blade soon.
No, no, no --- nun-liberator! And nunnery burner! She's probably my favorite historic character! La Maupin forever!
(I've heard they are making a musical out of her life story)
In fairness, yes the nun was her girlfriend who had been forced to take holy orders after their relationship was discovered.OTOH Julie later got bored and dumped her.
Ruth wrote: "3 Crows magazine has just (22nd Feb) published a long and very interesting interview with Tamsyn Muir: http://threecrowsmagazine.com/tamsyn-......"This interview was fantastic. I love Muir.

Topics discussed include her early life, development as a writer, the controversy around some fanfic that she wrote, her thoughts about the pressures on queer writers, and the arguably misleading Charlie Stross blurb.
She has a snarky tone quite similar in some ways to Gideon herself, so if you enjoyed the book, I highly recommend checking out this interview.
