Here are your October 2020 Mini Challenges!

RULES

** Books DO NOT all have to be mysteries. You can use any genres.

** A book can be used only once for this challenge, but can be used for other challenges (Seasonal, World Trip, Ultimate, etc.).

** You DO NOT have to choose books in advance, and can change your mind at any time if you do.

** Do as many as you are able and have fun!

1. October is National Vegetable Month:
Read your veggies—any book with vegetables on the cover.

2. Week two of October is Fire Prevention Week and October 9 is Fire Prevention Day: Read a book with fire on the cover or in the title (bonfire, building, candle, campfire, fireplace), or a book in which something is burned.

3. October 3 is Techies Day: Read a book in which technology plays a role (eg: AI, blog, cellphone, computer, email, robot).

4. October 8 is American Touch Tag Day: Tag, you’re it! Don’t worry, our game will not require physical exercise. Close your eyes and “tag” a book on your shelf to read. (More below)

5. October 31 is Halloween and Carve a Pumpkin Day: Read a book with a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern on the cover, or a book with an orange cover.

.

TAG DETAILS

In full disclosure, I am borrowing this one from the 2020 Popsugar Ultimate Reading Challenge. The objective is to close your eyes and read the first book you touch.

* If you are able to visit the library or bookstore—or have your own physical TBR pile—go to the genre section you want, close your eyes, and choose a book.

* If you choose a book that is part of a series, you may read the first book in that series, or the next book up for you in that series.

* For those with E-readers, there are alternative ways of randomly selecting a book. One is by using an online random number generator and reading the corresponding book number on your shelf. Use your GR shelf if that makes it easier. This may require you to know how many books are on your “to read” shelf or a particular genre/author shelf.

* Get a friend or family member to help. If you know you have 156 books on a shelf, ask someone to pick a number between 1 and 156. Or you could close your eyes and scroll the page(s), then stab at the screen and read whatever you land on.

* Another idea, if you have a short stack of library books to read, is to write each title on a slip of paper and have someone pick one out of a bowl.

* Since the idea is to blindly chose a book, you may also use “mystery” books — also called “blind date with a book” — in which some booksellers or librarians wrap up a bunch of books, placing only vague descriptions of a book on the outside.

* Remember that this isn’t meant to be difficult, it’s all in good fun!

Now go run around outside!
