John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 45 comments How do you add books to the various Goodreads book theme lists?

message 2: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Go to the list that you want and at the top you will see a tab that says "add books to this list". Click on the tab and you can add books. You should follow the guidelines set by the person who started the list though.

Lauren is correct if you are talking about adding a book to one of the LISTOPIA lists.

If you are talking about how to "tag" a book ...

Search for the book you want.
Click the "# editions" to see all the editions - select the exact edition you want.
Click the star rating
If you hover over the green box you should get a little pop-up that allows you to "write review"
Once you are on the review page you'll see a little box called choose shelves

This is a list of shelves YOU have already begun for yourself. If you haven't "tagged" or "shelved" any books you can "add new shelf" ... and type in the tag you want. That tag will then appear in your shelf menu in the future.

Hope that helps.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments How do I get my books to appear in a different color and underlined or bold?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments Here are links to two different sets of instructions. I'm not sure what you mean by books in a different color. Do you mean other editions?

Highlighting and underlying text is the same as Shelfari except you don't use [ ] to start with. Replace them with < >.

James F | 5 comments I'm here, the latest refugee from Shelfari. You may know me as JamesF there. All my real world friends who are on any group are on Goodreads, and they actually have tech support here. In fact it was Goodreads tech support who got my books exported from Shelfari, which I have been unable to do since May, and gotten no help at all from Shelfari.

Unfortunately, the number of books which imported is exactly equal to the number I had marked as read on Shelfari, but it seems to be a random mix of books I had marked as read and to be read, so not all my books I had read are moved -- I could have done without the TBR list but I really wanted my list of read books. And everything is marked as read here.

I can't really say I like the interface, which I find very confusing. How do I find my reviews? Apparently, some at least of my Shelfari reviews came over because I have gotten comments on them here. But when I click on my reviews from a new review -- the only place I've found to click -- it just goes to my book list. I'd like to at least see which reviews came over. The only way I know my new reviews are on here somewhere is because they've posted from here to my Facebook, I can't see them anywhere on Goodreads itself.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments If you go to your profile, on the far left (underneath your profile image), you'll see your number of reviews. If you click on that link, you'll see the list of your reviews.

You may also access your individual reviews from the specific book pages of the books.

James F | 5 comments Thank you, Jonetta. I hadn't actually found that profile page, I was just going to Home, which is why I found the interface so confusing. The Profile page is more like Shelfari with everything separated out rather than in one list. It appears all my reviews came over.

Hi, James ... as you explore Goodreads, you might want to check out this group: Constant Reader - https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

James F | 5 comments Thank you BookConcierge, I was looking for a group to replace my Shelfari groups (though I will continue there for a while, until I get acclimated here or Shelfari collapses altogether) and have asked to join this one. I was especially interested that they are reading the Iliad as I was planning to re-read it this year anyway.

Denizen (den13) My comments seem to be missing from Shelfari and I think other people are missing as well. Is anyone else noticing this.

I can still add books, however!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments Haven't noticed that issue personally but I did see a huge drop in the number of members in one of my groups. I wonder if they did a purge of inactive members.

Glad to see you've found a group that works for you here. I had a feeling it might be right up your alley.

I have discovered that several known Shelfarians are missing from discussions when I use Firefox but everything is OK when I use Chrome. I guess I'll just use Chrome for now and see what tomorrow brings...

I can still add books, however!"
