I've read a lot of Young Adult fiction in the past couple of years. (I have a preteen who reads well above her age level and I'm constantly screening books for her). Usually, I'm able to turn off my 35-year-old-mom brain, but it was difficult with this book. I was caught up with way too many "issues" (teacher/student relationship etc.) to really enjoy the story.

Kirsten Grier | 8 comments I do like YA fiction books in general. They are always an easy read and a good "light" read most of the time. It's always a good genre for me after I've read a more serious book. I found myself doubting some parts of this book though. Some of the situations seemed a little too convenient. What are the chances that they would move in across from each other and find themselves in the same situation raising their younger sibling? It was a little too neatly wrapped up for me. I have never read a Colleen Hoover book. Has anyone read the sequel to this one?

Jennifer | 3 comments I'm with you, Emilee. I am a teacher and a mom, and I, too, was way too caught up in what would be the reality of this situation. I did like the book, but it was hard not to wear my mom/teacher hat while reading it.

I'd love to hear from the members who loved the book! Do you find you enjoy a lot of romantic stories? Or was there just something about "Slammed"that you found particularly special?

Marna Saunders | 3 comments I hate to admit that I really liked this series. I read tons of stuff from classics to ya to junk. Sure, none of the scenarios seem plausible, but that is pretty much the norm in YA fiction. Really, the only reason I read this was #1 it was free on Kindle and #2 the Avett references.

Don't apologize for the things you like! When we were deciding on a book to read, several members gushed all over this selection - you're in good company. I didn't mean to start the discussion off on a sour note. I hope everyone feels free to voice differing opinions.

Melissa | 5 comments I know I am late to this party but couldn't get to this book until a few days ago. Honestly, if it had not been for the Avett lyrics, I don't think I ever would have picked this up. My biggest problem with the book was how they could have met and fallen so hard for each other so quickly and it just never came up that she was still in high school.

However, it was a really sweet story and I really do enjoy a romantic story where the happy ending is not really ever in doubt and the couple is not all about getting in bed with each other. And, I had never heard of 'slamming' before and that sounded really cool. I would be interested in seeing something like that in real life.

I am a little up in the air about reading the next books in the series. I think if I come across them at a good price I will go ahead and read them. It was a very fast read and as I said, I do love a romance that doesn't jerk me around.
