Welcome to the challenge! I've been wanting to read the Sue Grafton books. They look really good.

Maria (sexydva) | 44 comments I'm going to have to put Corinna Chapman back on my list. I never finished it last year. Hoping that your progress will motivate me!

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished my first for this challenge today. Read Devil's Food, one of the Corinna Chapman mysteries by Kerry Greenwood. Enjoyed it very much. Love the Corinna character and all the others in this series.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments It's been a few years since I read my last Laura Lippman. I'm about halfway through "The Last Place" and I've been reading a few pages and putting it aside for something else. Now that I am halfway through, it is really starting to get interesting and I don't want to put it down! Should finish it by Friday.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finally finished the Laura Lippman today. In "The Last Place," Tess gets into a little trouble and ends up with court-mandated anger management for 6 months. Her friend Whitney gets her involved in a "project" looking for problems with police and domestic violence cases. Tess ends up with an ex-cop for a partner and a stalker of sorts. In the end, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next in the series.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished another one in the Sue Grafton series today, S is for Silence. I love a book that gets you hooked on the first sentence on the first page, the books in this series are not those kind of books, but if you can get through the first 50 pages or so of set-up, they usually get better. This one got really good, I didn't want to put it down. Silence is one of the better books in the series. Kinsey is asked to review a 30-year-old cold case by the victim's daughter (the other of my favs in this series was a fictionalized account of a real cold case - so I must like the cold case ones!). Daisy wants to know if her mother left or was she murdered. The author uses a back and forth to drive the story. One chapter will be in Kinsey's present time (1980s), the next chapter will be one of the would-be suspects on the day before or the day of Violet's disappearance. Generally, I don't like books that use this, sometimes it makes it hard for me to follow the storyline, but this time, I enjoyed it, because the reader knows things that Kinsey does not. There were lots of suspects in this story and I didn't know who did it until the end. Enjoyable read.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Today I finished reading the 4th in the Kerry Greenwood, Corinna Chapman mysteries, "Trick or Treat." I really like the colorful, diverse characters that inhabit this series. I'm actually a little bummed that there are only 6 books in this series, the last one was written in 2011, so I'm thinking the author's not going to write anymore. Too bad, I really like Corinna and her friends!

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Today, I finished "T is for Trespass" by Sue Grafton. I'm getting closer to the end. Just U, V, and W to go, then X comes out in the fall. I kept putting this one down, not because it wasn't good, but because I had so many books going, I kept skipping around. This one was a little different. One of Kinsey's elderly neighbors, Gus, falls and hurts himself and needs in-home care because he has no family to help. His great niece comes out from the East Coast to find someone to help and asks Kinsey to do a background check on the woman who applies. Kinsey finds nothing to indicate problems, so Solana is hired to help Gus and then the trouble starts. This was an eye opener for anyone who might be looking after elderly relatives and need in-home help. There is also a back-burner accident case that Kinsey is working on also with a little twist. Enjoyable read.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished U is for Undertow today! Two more to read in this series before the new one comes out this fall. This was another interesting cold case that Kinsey gets mixed up in. Her client turns out to be a little nutsa, and his info a bit of a bust, but as always, she just can't give it up, and manages to solve the case anyway. Also, we and she, get a little more background history on her family in this book. Interesting, enjoyable read.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Tonight I finished Kerry Greenwood's "Forbidden Fruit." I love these books! Unfortunately, there is only 1 book left in this 6 book series. In this installment, it is Christmastime in Melbourne and it's a hot and windy summer. Corinna would rather ignore Christmas and the irritating Christmas carols. She and Daniel are working a case involving a pregnant teen runaway, madrigal singers, a gypsy out to avenge his brother's death, a crazy cult, vegans, freegans, and a runaway donkey! As always, there is lots of baking and good food among the inhabitants of the Insula Apartments. The characters are quirky and interesting and I love the way they all meld together and the friendships they have. Very enjoyable read.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Yesterday, I finished Laura Lippman's, "By a Spider's Thread." Am remembering what I liked about this series, a strong female lead with just enough vulnerabilities to make you like her. She's not perfect, and that's a good thing. In this installment, she is without her boyfriend, Crowe. He has gone home to Charlottesville, Virginia to be with his mom who has cancer, after she turns down his marriage proposal. She is still recovering from her last case in which she killed a man, almost getting killed herself, and helping her Aunt Kate prepare for her wedding. This case involves 3 children who have been taken by their mother from their father. Mother and children are "on the road." Father hires Tess to find them. Father is Orthodox Jew, rich, and tends not to tell Tess everything she needs to know and tends not to believe the things she does find out. Makes for an interesting read.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments This morning I finished Sue Grafton's, "V is for Vengeance." One more before the newest comes out next month! This one was a little slow to get into for me, but once I did, I enjoyed it. Kinsey gets caught up with a friendly ex-con, a bad cop from her past, shoplifting, a non-suicide, a shoplifting ring run by a kindly, almost mafia don. This book had a lot going on until the end, when it was all tied together. Enjoyable read.

This series really is pretty good, some are better than others, but mostly I have enjoyed them. I actually started reading them many years ago, but hadn't read any in years and didn't remember where I left off, so I started all over again about 2-3 years ago and now am almost at the end.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Just finished "W is for Wasted" by Sue Grafton yesterday. This is one of the latest in this long-running series. Now there is only the newest which just came out in the last few weeks, "X." "W" was a little slow, but interesting as it involved a drug trial fraud and during the course of her investigation, Kinsey found some more family that she didn't know of, this time from her father's side!

I have the X on hold at the library, but there are still a couple of people in front of me, so it will probably be at least a month before I get it, if that soon, but I should get it before the New Year!

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments I finished the last of the Corinna Chapman books last night. Am sorry to see this series come to an end. I have really enjoyed it. Will miss Corinna and her eclectic group of friends!

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished Laura Lippman's "No Good Deeds" this morning. A little slow to begin, but once it got going, it was good.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished the latest in the Kinsey Millhone series. This one just came out in the last couple of months. I had a little trouble getting into it at first, but once I really sat down and read more than a few pages at a time, I became really engrossed in it. A very enjoyable read! Now there is only the book of shorts to finish in this series.

message 21: by BJ (new)

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished the Kinsey and Me book of short stories today. It was okay. I'm not a huge short story lover, but the Kinsey Milhone ones were actually pretty good. They moved quicker than the novels did and the stories were good mini-mysteries. There was also a short autobiography of the author and a few stories about a 13-14 year old girl with an alcoholic mother.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished another in the Laura Lippman series this morning. Only 2 more to go. Guess I'll have to finish this series in 2016.

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Okay, I don't see any separate folders for 2016, so I'm just going to do my tracker for 2016 here. I've decided on my first 3 series to start with. I'm going to finish the Laura Lippman series leftover from 2015, I only have 2 left. I'm also going to finish the Mitford series by Jan Karon and the Alex Rutledge series by Tom Corcoran.

Laura Lippman (Tess Monaghan)
The Girl in the Green Raincoat (Tess Monaghan, #11) by Laura Lippman Finished!
Hush Hush (Tess Monaghan, #12) by Laura Lippman Finished!

Jan Karon (Mitford Series)
Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good (Mitford Years, #10) by Jan Karon
Come Rain or Come Shine (Mitford Years, #11) by Jan Karon

Tom Corcoran (Alex Rutledge)
Octopus Alibi An Alex Rutledge Mystery by Tom Corcoran
Air Dance Iguana by Tom Corcoran
Hawk Channel Chase by Tom Corcoran
The Quick Adios (Times Six) by Tom Corcoran

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished The Girl in the Green Raincoat by Laura Lippman. It was short, only 180 pages. It was a little Rear Window-ish. Tess is having a difficult pregnancy and is on bed rest in a small porch room at the back of her house, overlooking a dog park which is where she sees the girl in the green raincoat and her dog. This one has a few little twists. Easy, enjoyable read. Only one more to go on this one.

message 26: by BJ (new)

BJ (GoodreadscomLilcLdy57) | 54 comments Finished Hush Hush by Laura Lippman, the final book in the Tess Monaghan Charm City series, for now. Don't know if she plans to write anymore. This one was one of my favorites in the series. Tess and Crow are now the parents of a 3-year-old little girl, Carla Scout who is quite outspoken and precocious. Tess becomes involved with a Mom who gave up custody of her two girls after leaving her baby in a hot car where she died. Mom was acquitted of murder by reason of insanity. It was an interesting and twisty storyline which I enjoyed very much.
