Nell | 1228 comments Barbara Neely, author of the Blanche White mystery series has died. Her series was one of the first to feature an African-American woman as sleuth. Last year, Mystery Writers of America honored Neely as a Grand Master.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Sorry to hear this. I read the Blanche White books some years ago. Blanche Among the Talented Tenth was an eye-opener for me. Before I read it I never realized the depth of discrimination among African-Americans themselves based upon how dark or light skinned a person is.
