Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2178 comments April's Group Read is the third volume of Hilary Mantel's trilogy about Cromwell, The Mirror & the Light. It is just published, and hotly awaited, so should be widely available in bookstores and libraries.

Mick Dubois shame that libraries are closed due to covid.

Mary Elise Dedicke | 5 comments Finally finished it last night! What a journey. I didn't struggle at all with the 1st two books. Initially I was captivated as I expected, savoring all the machinations & details. But this was so long, I found myself reading ahead to the action parts just to keep my interest from flagging, and those were given short shrift IMO (e.g. Jane's baby, the Pilgrimage of Grace). Halfway I decided to give up, something I never do. But a couple days later I resumed from the halfway point and my immersion thankfully returned. The end was fabulous, I lingered over every word. I do think it would've been a stronger book with some judicious (liberal?!) editing, so I only gave this one a 4 out of 5 stars. I will miss Thomas Cromwell!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2178 comments Awesome - glad you enjoyed it, Mary Elise.

Arwen | 55 comments I finished it two days ago.
I didn't like the writing style in the first two books but it must have grown on me as I wasn't too much bothered by the numerous "he, Cromwell"s in this third book. In the end I enjoyed it very much. I found it very interesting.
