Dark Tower discussion

I read the Dark Tower series for the first time last winter and absolutely fell in love with it. I've seen that the books has been adapted into a comic book series, and it looks like they add a lot of detail and back story that was not included in the books. Because I love this story and these characters so much I'm tempted to check these out. I'm wondering if anyone has already read any of them. Do they do The Dark Tower justice? I'd hate to dive in and have them in any way ruin my love of Roland Deschain.

I read the first couple issues as they came out and stopped. There was nothing wrong with them but I didn't want the characters to influence how I pictured the characters when I re-read the books. Also, I liked preserving the mystery of what happened at Jericho Hill and things of that nature.

I've read a few of the first ones. I liked it fine, but I'm a purist and prefer the novels and my imagination. I'm also a cheapskate and the novels are more affordable. :)
