It was just another ordinary day at McKinley High—until a massive explosion devastated the school. When loner David Thorpe tried to help his English teacher to safety, the teacher convulsed and died right in front of him. And that was just the beginning.

A year later, McKinley has descended into chaos. All the students are infected with a virus that makes them deadly to adults. The school is under military quarantine. The teachers are gone. Violent gangs have formed based on high school social cliques. Without a gang, you’re as good as dead. And David has no gang. It’s just him and his little brother, Will, against the whole school.

Ch 1-3 (view spoiler)[Wow wtf just happened. There was a boom, the building shook, his teacher spits out his freaking organs and dies, all their hair is falling out and soldiers are surrounding the school shooting at them. What the hell lol?!?! So, I just finished chapter 3. I'm not sure if it is the writing itself or what but I'm struggling to get into this one. The action is starting to occur and I have some questions already... (view spoiler)[So obviously I want to know what caused this whole virus to happen. And if it is a virus, what was the earthquake type shaking that hit the school? How is the military already there? And they're shooting at the kids trying to flee but they let one kid by himself get within 3 feet of the soldier that then died? (hide spoiler)] I'm not sold on this one quite yet; could end up being my first dnf of the year.

That's what I'm hoping as well. May try for another chapter or two tonight depending how work goes. I'll give it the first quarter and if I'm not in I may not finish. Hopefully it picks up though.

Just started today, didn't get to read much, but trying to read more male POV books so excited to get more into the story :D

We got some explanation of the hair colors, and what caused all of this. It feels a bit too simple of one but still. That scene at the end of ch 7 with David saving Lucy and killing Brad is going to result in some big problems I'm betting.. (hide spoiler)]

Soooo.. I'm dropping out and DNF'ing this. Just not interested at all :/

If I wasn’t halfway in I’d prolly do the same. Honestly it’s just highschool drama and cliques with a different set of circumstances. Still not even clear if it’s just them and their school affected 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

I only made it 20% in so don’t feel like it was too big a waste. Problem is I just came off a five book series I forced myself through in February and March that I hated and I just can’t with this one lol.

aw i liked it, and the ending really makes me want book 2 so i guess i'll be moving on to that one by myself :/

And David forever lost me when even after she gouged hismflippin eye, he’s still making excuses for Hilary and it makes me sick. And now once again they’re fighting for their lives and why don’t they just tell these ppl they have a way out. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ (hide spoiler)]

Yeah sorry about that but don’t count on me either. Getting this far has been a struggle and I doubt I’ll want to read on.

I’m so confused and still angry over everything that happened from David losing an eye to Will behaving like a toddler. The drama with Sam, who God I wanted to suffer never came and he outsmarted them every time. I feel like he won and I’m pissed because will and David were both so dense. I could smack David over his Hilary infatuation, Jesus man she’s Satan, how does he not see it, even after she shanks him in the flipping eye.
