When I was younger, I sat down and read the first novel of the Heroes of Olympus series, The Lost Hero. I have always been a fan of the first book, so I decided to read the second, The Son of Neptune. Just like the first novel, the structure was strange. Every chapter, the point of view of the story would switch between three characters giving you new insights, challenges, and opinions on the story. While I have never been a fan of this story structure Rick Riordan always used, I was a fan of how he used it this novel. Not to spoil anything, but Rick Riordan masterfully used this technique by creating silent conflicts between the characters. This novel was not part of the Percy Jackson series, so it was great to see that Percy showed up in the Heroes of Olympus series. This made me enjoy the book way more because like The Lost Hero, I read the entire Percy Jackson series as a child. It was great to see Percy return in the novel and learn more about his character and morals (which get challenged). Though (not a spoiler), I did not like how Percy was struggling with amnesia because it made him look very weak as a character, something I do not remember from the Percy Jackson series. Anyway, The Son of Neptune is a great book, but like all of the Rick Riordan novels, is very long. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in adventure novels and has been a fan of the Percy Jackson series.
