The Tale of Genji The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu

I have to admit I have never heard of this book until just now. It is mentioned in the National Geographic magazine I am reading as being the first major literary work written by a woman, written over 1,000 years ago. So I looked it up, and it appears to be a real door-stopper at over 1000 pages! So I'll throw it out here. :-)

Petra I nominate Island of the World. With a rating of 4.67 it just has to be good....right??!!

Maureen (meg9000) | 84 comments Oh boy -- now that i've read a little about the Luminaries, I want to read that one too. And I know I'll never read that one without a group read on it.

The poll has closed, and The Luminaries The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton was our winner for our next chunky read.

I will leave it up to Meg to set up the rest of the planning and time schedule. I've ordered my copy to join in on this one. :-)

We will plan on starting reading on February 22nd (the last Sunday in Feb). Meg asked me if I can set up a reading schedule for this one, since she is doing the audio book version, so I will get a schedule up once my copy arrives. We will plan on reading approx. 100 pages a week though. :-)
