I've read quite a few of her books already (and loved them). Still have some left to read, though -- The Enchantment of Lily Dahl, Mysteries of the Rectangle: Essays on Painting, The Summer Without Men, Living, Thinking, Looking: Essays.
I would really like to join: I haven't read anything by her, but I'm curious to see if she has anything in common from a literary point of view with her husband.
Happy to read with you, Deea. Do you have any of her books already? Some of her other books could also be a good starting place for you -- I loved The Blazing World, The Blindfold, and What I Loved, and the title essay in Yonder: Essays is brilliant.
Yes, I have some of them (if not all)...I have to double-check what I have in my kindle and I will make sure to read what you recommended. I was thinking of picking "What I Loved" first. What date would be convenient for you guys for a group read of any of the books you haven't read?
I haven't read any Hustvedt yet, but What I Loved is sitting on my shelf, and I'd be open to reading any of the others, so I'd like to join you. I'm flexible on dates.
Great, Angie and Deea! I'm overdue for a re-read of What I Loved, so it looks like we have a group read. I'm flexible on dates too, so Deea, let us know when you're ready to read What I Loved, and I'll create that discussion thread. I know I'll be reading others by her this year as well, so happy to do other reads with you both whenever you'd like.
I really liked What I Loved. I'm definitely going to be reading The Blazing World which I already own, if anyone is interested in reading that.
Deea and Angie, if you're hoping to read others by Hustvedt this year as well, we should probably aim for some time in the next few months to read What I Loved -- I can read as soon as the first part of January, but is that too soon for you? If so, maybe we can find a time between now and the end of March.
Ellie, you'll love The Blazing World -- and it's really well suited for discussion. I read it last year, and would be happy to participate in a discussion.
Anytime works for me, so January isn't too soon. The Blazing World was on the list for the Booker prize this last year, so that's on my list to read this year, too.
January is fine with me. I am at the last chapter of the book I am reading now and I will be able to start it this week. As for the other books by her, I wanna see first how much I click with her style and then decide. I might enlist later for other Hustvedt reads.
Great -- I'll set up a thread for What I Loved to begin January 5. Angie and Ellie, if you ant to schedule a formal read of The Blazing World, just decide on a month and I can join in and set it up.
I also recently discovered this author. When I went to the library last week, I had her name on my mind and picked up a book of hers. I could not remember why I even knew of her, and now I suspect that I had heard of her name here.I checked out Sorrows of an American and have started reading it. I was surprised how engrossed I became and polished off 100 pages in one night. I put aside because I had other things going on, but I think I will finish it within a few days. So far I have enjoyed this book - the plot and the characters.
Admittedly, I did not think I would be so into this writer since I was not completely familiar with her name. I usually start reading an author when I have read many reviews- but sometimes it is nice to go with your gut or be surprised.

The store owed me a trade credit so i thought I'd take the chance and I'm so glad that I did. I will look for the book you mention too.
