misplacedselchie | 347 comments I am tentatively choosing this book for my classic romance. really, I would have read Pride and Prejudice again but, aside from challenges that call for rereading, I'm trying to make sure they are all new books. Actually I almost went with the Songs of Solomon because I love that book but well...I already read it lol. I had a lot recommended to me by friends (Persuasion, Anna Karenina, etc) but I think I am going to go with this one.

I adore period pieces but I am super picky over romance books (read: I prefer books like Jane Austen's to modern 'romance' like Laurel K Hamilton). This is one of the most quoted that I have ever heard though.

Plus...Clark Gable. ;)

Bailey | 23 comments For my romance, I am reading Pride and Prejudice but I considered reading Gone With The Wind! I have yet to read it. Let me know your thoughts.

I've always wanted to read this. The movie is one of my all time favorites! You're definitely brave, Lora! This is an ambitious title to read in a week. I'm cheering you on!

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Bailey, I will definitely let you know what I think about it! And I know I told you before but omg Pride and Prejudice is awesome.

Michelle, thank you :). I haven't seen it yet either but I know Clark Gable is on it and well...Clark Gable! I have a feeling I'm going to finish Elantris early so that'll help. I tend to blow through Sanderson's work quick because I can never put it down

If you liked Pride and Prejudice, Lora, I think Gone with the Wind will be up your alley. I've never read it, as I've said, but the story is about that push and pull of relationships. And all those heart-wrenching will they/won't they moments between Scarlet and Rhett, ugh, they're maddeningly good. Or, at least they are in the movie. I'd say Scarlet is more the Darcy and Rhett is more the Elizabeth in this case. I hope you'll keep us updated as you go. I'm as excited that you're reading this as I'd be if I was, haha.

Also, I second that. Clark Gable. You can always have more Clark Gable.

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Oh Mr. Darcy. /sigh

Jessica (jsore003) Gone with the wind is my week two selection as well. I have been eyeing this book on my grandmothers bookshelf for awhile. This challenge gives me an excuse to swipe it. I've never seen the movie either.

KP | 13 comments GWTW is probably one of my all time favoriate books. I may be biased, but I think you made a good choice!

message 9: by Mothpit (new) - added it

Mothpit Dear Lora, you are a very ambitious and brave woman and I respect you along with everyone else who took this book on as a weekly challenge. I mean, he copy I borrowed from my local library is 1176 pages and heavy enough to be a murder weapon!

I'm not sure if I'm courageous enough to do the same, but if I get to fight my way through week one, I might drop in (if tolerated). :)

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Jessica, glad you'll be joining me! I'm excited to start it and talk about it with everyone :)

Regina, aw thanks :). I tend to overreach a bit so I'm hoping I don't feel like I bit off more than I can chew here :D

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Oh dear...I know this is the first day of week two but I am feeling like I bit off more than I can chew here xD

message 12: by Erika (new)

Erika This was one of the books my mom suggested to me for week 21 (I didn't end up going with it though)

You can do it, Lora! *cheerleader style*

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Don't worry, I won't stop reading it.. it just might take me a little longer, lol. I did not anticipate normal life stuff, like kids and work and all that. Oops! ;)

Also, Scarlet irritates me so there is always that xD

Gone With the Wind is definitely in my top 5 favorite books (maybe number one). After reading this post I considered switching and reading it again (I haven't read it since I was in my teens) but it looks like it's on hold at the library and my mom has the print copy back home. Maybe I'll fit in for a different challenge...

Tammy One of my all-time favorite books!

Jessica (jsore003) Finally finished!! I was determined to finish this book. Now I will have to play catch up.

Charity (faeryrebel78) My Aunt gave me this to read in middle school and I fell in love. I really should re-read it soon. I know there are a few books based on characters from GWTW but I've always been afraid to read them since I love the original so much. Anyone read and have an opinion on Scarlett, Rhett Butler's People, or Ruth's Journey?

Charity: I really loved Gone With the Wind and couldn't get into Rhett Butler's People at all. I didn't finish it. But it's been a really long time so maybe I should revisit it. If I remember right, Scarlett was good but not great. It was nice to see a continuation of the story and I would definitely recommend it for the closure but it just didn't have the magic of the original Gone with the Wind since it's by a different author.

misplacedselchie | 347 comments Charity, I haven't read any of them but because I was angry over the completely unresolved ending of GWTW, I did read the Wikipedia page for Scarlett. While some of what I read there I didn't agree with, I was content with the resolved ending there ;)

Charity (faeryrebel78) Thanks for the input. I don't think any book will have the same magic as GWTW. My mom bought me Scarlett and Rhett Butler's People years ago but I just haven't made myself read them for that very reason. I saw the new book about Mammy at the bookstore the other day which made me wonder if I should try reading any if them.

I have always been curious about The Wind Done Gone. It's the same story told from the point of view of the slaves. I might have to add that into the list somewhere

Charity (faeryrebel78) I've never heard of that one. Another book goes onto the TBR list. I believe I just need to re-read GWTW and then start reading some of these others.

misplacedselchie | 347 comments I might read one of those for "a book with bad reviews". Hmm...which to choose.....
