Week 10: A mystery or a thriller
March 5-11, 2015


It's gonna get spooky! Grab your detective hat and find a great mystery to curl up with. :)


How to Create a Topic:

Sooo...I'm not easily spooked by books...so anyone have some suggestions of books for this week?

i dont go for the thriller i think i go for a mystery. Mystery is found in more books. Thrillers depend on what you like or dislike.
Ive got some detectives hanging around that i still need to read. Mystery enough in those i think :)

mystery doesn't necessarily mean spooky books. I'd recommend any of the Sherlock Holmes books, especially The Hound of Baskerville

Also consider psychological thrillers. I hear those are interesting reads!

It will be Sherlock for me, as I have the complete book and read only the 1st and 2nd stories :) It will be The Hound of the Baskervilles, so I'm glad it's recommended by Lora (anyway, it's Sherlock, so it can be disappointing :p).

Zaz, good choice! ;). It was definitely a fun one. I have the complete series too and decided to read it all last year, lol

Gillian Flynn would be good for this week. I just finished Sharp Objects and it was definitely a freaky thriller. I may try her Dark Places for this topic.

Anyway, I really recommend Dark Places. It's actually my favorite of her books.

Just wondering... what is the difference between a thriller and a mystery. If there is a mystery, then there is the thrill of looking for the answers. Right?

I think thriller has a little more of an unsettling feel. Think Stephen King, John Saul, or Dean Koontz. Mysteries are focused primarily on solving the crime. You even have the category of "cozy mysterious" which can be good fun--the person solving the crime is not anyone in law enforcement. The cozies I've read recently have a witch or cupcake shop owner or bookstore owner solving mysteries.
