Oh my. I may consider this but I'm already planning Proust and so many other things. Do you have any idea what the reading is like in this book? (silly question, I know)

I just read a sample at Amazon and I think I may already be hooked. If I need more time to read it, at least I can begin with this group.

This is very tempting, but I will wait to commit as we approach the date...

You are wise Kalliope.

LOL, 2015 is the year of being wise which means reading mostly the books I already own... depending on how that goes, I will allow myself to add these too... But I do want to read them.

message 8: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments I keep trying to do that Kalliope and then getting tempted elsewhere.

message 9: by Jacob (new)

Jacob (jacobaugust) | 67 comments The Doris Lessing group will continue its reading of her Children of Violence series with Landlocked, the fourth book, on or around July 1st. A group read of Martha Quest is currently ongoing, with the rest of the books to be read on an every-other-month schedule.

Funnily I'm joining groups for books that have been sitting on my shelves so that's terrific. I don't know about a 1000+ page book, though. I'm always intimidated by Kris and her amazing speed. As Kalliope says, I'm tempted.

message 11: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments Cynthia, I totally agree. I have several of these books on my shelf but if I read that really long one, I will probably get it for Kindle. I learned my lesson trying to manage A Suitable Boy (ca 1500 pages). It was hard to hold by the end but didn't exist for Kindle. I think I will give the Rebecca West a try if at all possible, even if I am not able to finish with the group.

That's exactly what I thought, Sue, perfect for a Kindle. Might be the impetus for me to buy one. A Suitable Boy, another on my shelf that I haven't read. Do you get the idea that I have a book buying illness?

I know that I have one, Cynthia :) I keep buying books even though I have shelves of books I haven't read yet. They are so addicting. I do try to always get them on sale or remainders, etc :)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Discussion for The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir is loosely scheduled to start at around July 1. It is a large work and our times might not exactly coincide, so if you are interested in it, visit the thread whenever you do have the time for it. :)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Tentatively putting down a date for Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente for July 20.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments A group of us are interested in discussing Novel Without a Name by Dương Thu Hương, to start July 10.

Moved now to June 15

message 17: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments That sounds like a very compelling book Traveller. I'm not sure if I can join the reading then, but I do want to read this book.

message 18: by Traveller (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments The latter one? You mean because July is so full? Well.. yeah, that's why I put it in for the 10th... is there another date that you think might be better?

message 19: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments Not really. I have so many things planned at this point it's becoming a bit of a juggling act. I think the 10th is probably as good as any other day for me. But thank you for asking.

message 20: by Traveller (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Okay, Sue. Does your June look better by any chance? My June is relatively empty still... though i don't know about the others who were interested in NWaN

message 21: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments June would probably be OK.

message 22: by Traveller (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Ok, I'll ask the others and maybe we can do mid-June?
