Garima | 75 comments Alice Munro, of course!

Jennifer (formerly Eccentric Muse) | 15 comments of course! I'm always in for an AM read - I do a couple of hers each year. I actually want to re-read Lives of Girls and Women in 2015, but am open to whatever, whenever. :-)

Sue | 155 comments I'm ashamed to admit I haven't read any Munro yet though I have at least 2 or 3 books of her stories on my shelves. I keep getting diverted. I'd be happy to read something with you sometime this year.

message 4: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl She has a new book just out that is a selection of stories from later years, 1995-2014, called Family Furnishings: Selected Stories, 1995-2014. It might be a good one for an intro to her. I'm looking forward to reading it, to enjoy all over again previously read stories.

Abubakar Mehdi | 15 comments Munro's "Dear Life" is on my to-read list for quite a while. I would love to have a buddy read anytime. BTW, I have read some reviews and I gathered that its a wonderful book. Maybe the best of Munro. So, Anyone, anytime, anywhere, I am ready for it.

Garima | 75 comments @Sue: We'll make sure that you get to read some Munro this year. :)

@Cheryl: Thanks for the heads up. I was unaware about her new book.

Like Abubakar, I have also heard some great things about Dear Life but any other Munro book is as good a choice too. More suggestions are welcome.

Jennifer (formerly Eccentric Muse) | 15 comments I have, but haven't yet read Dear Life. I'm in for that one!

We should definitely plan something.

message 9: by Garima (new)

Garima | 75 comments Ok great! Let's wait for others to comment and then we can fix a date for group read.

message 10: by Sue (last edited Dec 22, 2014 10:15AM) (new)

Sue | 155 comments I have Runaway, Selected Stories, 1968-1994, Too Much Happiness and The Beggar Maid: Stories of Flo and Rose. But I'm willing to read anything as I'm sure the library will have others. If I start here I'm sure it will motivate me to dig into the books I own. I don't think I can start immediately, but if an early date is chosen, I'll do my best to join in.

Garima | 75 comments I was thinking of 2nd week of Jan as starting date. The collection comprises of 14 stories that can easily be covered within 2 weeks time but we can stretch that up to 3 weeks to accommodate everyone with their other reading commitments.

message 12: by Abubakar (new)

Abubakar Mehdi | 15 comments Sure Garima. Lets do it.

message 13: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments I think I can do that Garima. To be honest, I'm losing track of what I'm reading when, but I usually read multiple books at one time. So the plan will be for Dear Life, starting around the 11th or 12th of January?

Jennifer (formerly Eccentric Muse) | 15 comments I'm in! Thanks for organizing us on this one, Garima!

message 15: by Garima (new)

Garima | 75 comments Thanks for the replies and the pleasure is absolutely mine. Let's decide Jan 11 to Jan 31 (3 weeks exact) devoted to group read. I'll cross post this info in Jan 2015 group read thread and shall try to chart out a schedule soon.

Abubakar Mehdi | 15 comments Perfect !

message 17: by Traveller (last edited Dec 23, 2014 09:02AM) (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments I have all her books and I've read one or two of the stories, so I might peep in here now and then. Not committing myself to anything though. :) My January is far too full already...

message 18: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 8 comments I'm going to read her in 2015. I've read Dear Life - so I might just read something else - yet test my memory to see if I can join in on the discussion.

message 19: by Abubakar (new)

Abubakar Mehdi | 15 comments @Garima we need to put it on the main group thread along with other upcoming books. Maybe we will have more buddies to join us if they want to.

message 20: by Garima (new)

Garima | 75 comments @Trav n Melody- Welcome aboard! Looking forward to your participation in the discussion.

@Abubakar: Done :)

message 21: by Garima (new)

Garima | 75 comments So I have come up with the following proposed schedule and since I don't have the book at hand right now, I referred to Amazon's look inside feature to calculate the no. of pages:

1st week- 4 stories (around 107 pages)
2nd Week- 5 stories (around 126 Pages)
3rd week- 5 stories (around 103 Pages. 3 of the 5 stories are the shortest of the lot)

I thought of reading 4 stories in 1st week in order to settle down with the mood and style of writing and once we'll gain the momentum, reading more towards the 2nd week will be easy.

Alternatively, we can read 5 stories in 1st week too. What you guys think?

message 22: by Abubakar (new)

Abubakar Mehdi | 15 comments I think 4 will be good for a start. And, Late comers will also easily match up.

Jennifer (formerly Eccentric Muse) | 15 comments sounds great.

message 24: by Sue (new)

Sue | 155 comments I'm going to try to do at least part of this, hopefully all of it. I have really wanted to start reading Munro.
