Discussion thread and group reads for Octavia Estelle Butler

I haven't read anything by her yet but I have been eyeing Parable of the Sower and Bloodchild and Other Stories for a while. There's also Kindred.

I'm also due to read my first Butler. I was thinking of biting into Parable of the Sower first but Kindred appeals to me as well.

I'll be up for Parable of the Sower then. Any idea when a group reading will suit you?

I read Bloodchild and Other Stories, Kindred, Wild Seed, and Dawn earlier this year, and started - but stalled on - Adulthood Rites. A group reading of Parable of the Sower would probably help refresh my interest in her work.

Any time from February onward would be good for me!

Alright so we're all decided on Parable of the Sower and February suits me fine since January will be devoted to the Sylvia Plath group read with Trav+Dolors+Bloodorange.

Yep! My January group reads include Doris Lessing and Dorothy Richardson, but I hadn't made any plans for February yet. Looking forward to it!

Alright then, I'll try to schedule the read as soon as I get to know when the Sylvia Plath January group read ends (since I'm participating in that one).

1/02/2014 - 7/02/2014 - 2024 (Chapter 1) - 2025 (Chapter 9)

8/02/2014 - 14/02/2014 - 2026 (Chapter 10) - 2027 (Chapter 16)

15/02/2014 - 21/02/2014 - 2027 (Chapter 17) - 2027 (Chapter 20)

22/02/2014 - 28/02/2014 - 2027 (Chapter 21) - 2027 (Chapter 25)

I am not sure if I have managed to split the book evenly into sections but the number of chapters to be read every week is turning out to constitute around 25% (average) of the total length of the book. Please let me know if anyone has a problem with this one so I can incorporate appropriate edits before I post it in the February, 2015 thread.

P.S.:-The book is divided into 4 sections - 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.
