I kind of like the training parts the best though, so I guess I don't mind...
Good point on Karris though. I feel like he's never done a very good job writing her.

Yeah the training is my favorite part too. Wasn't really a complaint just an observation about the balance of the series.
Yeah, we dont see much about the war itself, its given second hand, as various characters learn the names of cities that have now fallen, the # of dead, various battles inadvisably taken by incompetent generals, and the lists of the dead are read. I imagine the war will start to take a more center stage either later in this book or in the next book. Maybe it will happen when Gavin finally comes back.I enjoy the training sections too, but them I am a sucker for all school or ninja/warriors/wizards/matheletes/Go players/tennis/etc in book, movie, comic, or anime form :)
It was interesting to learn the true purpose of the blinding knife and get more hints about black luxin - this was this section right? before i get spoilery?
Is this still supposed to be a 4 book series? I know it was originally supposed to be a trilogy, and the series page on good reads says it's a 4 book series now. I just wonder if he'll be able to resolve all this stuff with the war in 1.5 more books.
In his Christmas video on his blog (http://www.brentweeks.com/) Brent says that he is 90,000 words into The Blood Mirror, which he is "99% certain will be the final installment of the Lightbringer series" and is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2016 (boo!)
Cool. I can wait an extra year if it means the series will be done. Better than him splitting it up and putting something out this year and a 5th book out next year IMHO.
So if I'm reading it correctly, the knife became a sword became a musket became a rifle (each time it stabbed it transmuted). At least Gunner talked about how now the musket has rifling in the barrel. What will it be next? A cannon? A laser? :) Anyway, a side note (maybe) but it was interesting to me.

While I am also enjoying Teia's infiltration of the Broken Eye so far I feel like Karris's spy sections are pretty weak. We haven't really gained any insight into how the spy game works and what techniques are being used. Hoping that changes throughout the book.
