Bill | 1596 comments Just finished the Ironfist - Tremblefist exibition chapter. It has to be by far my favorite chapter in this book so far. It got me thinking if the training sections are holding this book back at this point. I feel like the war hasn't advanced at all in this book and I find it a bit unrealistic. I know it is supposed to be winter and Andross has stated that the water isn't as easy to navigate but what other climate factors are holding up the color princes armies on land? Weeks mentions that it is winter but what does that mean in this world? Are we supposed to assume that the seasons match up to our own?

While I am also enjoying Teia's infiltration of the Broken Eye so far I feel like Karris's spy sections are pretty weak. We haven't really gained any insight into how the spy game works and what techniques are being used. Hoping that changes throughout the book.

I kind of like the training parts the best though, so I guess I don't mind...

Good point on Karris though. I feel like he's never done a very good job writing her.

Bill | 1596 comments Yeah the training is my favorite part too. Wasn't really a complaint just an observation about the balance of the series.

Sky | 1291 comments Yeah, we dont see much about the war itself, its given second hand, as various characters learn the names of cities that have now fallen, the # of dead, various battles inadvisably taken by incompetent generals, and the lists of the dead are read. I imagine the war will start to take a more center stage either later in this book or in the next book. Maybe it will happen when Gavin finally comes back.

I enjoy the training sections too, but them I am a sucker for all school or ninja/warriors/wizards/matheletes/Go players/tennis/etc in book, movie, comic, or anime form :)

It was interesting to learn the true purpose of the blinding knife and get more hints about black luxin - this was this section right? before i get spoilery?

Is this still supposed to be a 4 book series? I know it was originally supposed to be a trilogy, and the series page on good reads says it's a 4 book series now. I just wonder if he'll be able to resolve all this stuff with the war in 1.5 more books.

Sky | 1291 comments In his Christmas video on his blog (http://www.brentweeks.com/) Brent says that he is 90,000 words into The Blood Mirror, which he is "99% certain will be the final installment of the Lightbringer series" and is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2016 (boo!)

Cool. I can wait an extra year if it means the series will be done. Better than him splitting it up and putting something out this year and a 5th book out next year IMHO.

terpkristin Boo! But I'm with Rob, if it's worth the wait. :)

Suzanne | 1582 comments So if I'm reading it correctly, the knife became a sword became a musket became a rifle (each time it stabbed it transmuted). At least Gunner talked about how now the musket has rifling in the barrel. What will it be next? A cannon? A laser? :) Anyway, a side note (maybe) but it was interesting to me.

The blinding lightsaber?

Suzanne | 1582 comments It was a weird test for sure!

I agree, Cruxer is a great leader. The rest of the team blends a bit for me - but I enjoy seeing them work together.
