Sorry I wasn't able to participate in March. My library shut down and homeschooling three kids all of a sudden took some getting used to.

My question is how are you guys doing accessing books? Do you think we should do an April read? will people be able to get books easily or will this be too much to ask right now? Or is this needed? I go back and forth. Let me know what you think.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I feel for you, Tera. Working from home with partner and toddler is not as easy or relaxing as I might have fantasized.... (as I write that, my child has stripped off all her clothes except her socks, lol!)

I would like to continue group reads, but I probably couldn't get my hands on anything new. Maybe a good chance to do an older book? Or a classic?

Irene | 4590 comments Because I down most of my reads through Book Share or the Library of Congress BARD program, my access to books has not shifted. I am open to an April read. But, I also noticed that we did not read as much in March. I still not have opened the discussion of Miracle Creek to a general chat because I don't want to reveal spoilers to all those not yet finished.

I'm still here and finding some time to read or at least listen to books. My library uses overdrive so I am able to access books there for free and thank goodness for Amazon in times like this.
Wondering what people are reading now and maybe rather than a vote considering not everyone has access so easily and times are crazy we can just connect that way for a bit? Or maybe start to read together if we all seem to have or have access to a certain book?

Irene | 4590 comments I am reading books that have been selected by other GR groups and sneaking in some from my own TBR pile. I think I am reading more books these days. So, by the time I post it here and others would look for it, I would probably be finished.

message 6: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I think my reading has slowed down... I keep thinking I can read more than I can.

message 7: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments June is around the corner. Some communities are beginning to permit bookstores to reopen. Some libraries are doing curbside pick up. Do we want to have a group read in June?

message 8: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I might be game depending on the book. Anyone else?

message 9: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments I would be open to it. I am concerned that the momentum we began to see at the beginning of 2020 in this group will disapate if we go too long without a group read.

Irene | 4590 comments Hi Ladies, We tried to revive the group reads here this year. We did one book discussion before the pandemic hit. Between personal anxieties and life changes, book stores shuttered and libraries closed, we put a April read on hold. July is just around the corner. I am wondering where the members of this group are on the idea of shared book discussions/reads in this group. Is there still an interest in group reads here? If yes, would people be interested in beginning a nomination process for July? If not, should we allow this idea to die a peaceful death or should we try to revive it again next month?

message 11: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I would be open to it. I have missed the group.

message 12: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments Renee, What would you like to read as a small group? I am not sure how many people would join us, but maybe the two of us could get something started.

message 13: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I have pretty eclectic taste. The only things i dont really like are self help books.

Do you have a favorite genre?

message 14: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments I don’t do self help either. I also am not a huge fan of fantasy. Would you like to do something that has been out for a while? Is there a book you have on your tbr pile? Simon the Fiddler is a book that I am hearing great things about, but don’t know if it is too knew for people to get from the library. I also have been wanting to read Anything Is Possivle by Elizabeth Strout. Nonfiction, I want to read Lab Girl and also The New Jim Crow. How about you?

message 15: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I have The Lab Girl out from the library. It was a selection for my book group. The book was stuck in the library through the quarantine. I read the jacket. I am not sure it is my thing but I am willing to give it a try.

I do these groups to expose myself to new books. Some I love some I don't

So lets do lab girl

message 16: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments Sounds great.
Tara, can we start our own thread or do you want to set it up for us?
Anyone else want to join us?

message 17: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments Renee, Did you start the book? I read the first chapter and I like her writing style. I was drawn into her story of growing up in small town MN, playing in and assisting in her father's college lab.
I am not sure if I should start a new thread since I am not a mod here. What do you think?

message 18: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I had some dental work today. A filling came out. All my reading time got taken away I will start when i head to bed. I think it would be okay to start a thread.

message 19: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 275 comments I started last night before bed. I have to confess i am not as enamored with her writing as you

. Spoiler first 25 pages

(view spoiler)

message 20: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments Renee, I will see if I can create a new thread for this discussion.

message 21: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4590 comments Renee, It let me start a new thread, so I got one started for our discussion.
