Rachel (rachelreader14) Hello! I am excited to discuss this book because I really enjoyed the series.
My first question is "why did you pick this book/series up?" My second question is what did you like about The Hand on the Wall? Were you happy with the ending?"

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments Hi Rachel!

I remember picking up the first book because I heard buzz about it. I really enjoyed the first one so I wanted to read the whole series.

I did already finish The Hand on the Wall because my library hold came through early. I actually thought the ending was predictable so I was a bit disappointed and like the first and second of the series better. BUT as those who are currently reading will find out, there are some unpredictable and surprising elements in the book.

I would agree that there were some surprises in this book- I didn't quite "see" the modern day villain reveal until I read it! However, I thought more of the surprises were revealed in book 2.

Kay (kay_bookery) | 1 comments So, I picked this series up because the author has been a long time favorite (I highly recommend her Shades of London Series). I ended up marathoning the whole series because of the tension.

I agree with the above commenters that the surprises were fun. I didn't like the modern day villain twist though.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments Yes I suppose I meant to say that the modern-day villain twist was very predictable to me. Like once it's revealed I thought in my mind "of course" lol which I don't like. I like to be surprised.

Yes I think there were good surprises in the second book

Thanks for the suggestion of the Shades of London series. I'll have to look into that because I did like the writing of these books. So would be interested in more by the author.

Rachel (rachelreader14) I haven't read the Shades of London, but I discovered Maureen Johnson through 13 Little Blue Envelopes, which was very good.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments Ok great! I'll check that series out too.

Rachel (rachelreader14) Second question: did you have a favorite character in the series? Favorite pairing (couple or friends)?

Stevie and David were an interesting couple, but I did not love how mean they were to each other. My favorite pairing was probably Nate and Stevie because their conversations were hilarious and kind of reminded me of a teenage Piglet and Pooh bear. I love that, even though being around people was not his strong suit, Nate was always there for Stevie.

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I didn't like David at all, and I hated his relationship with Stevie. He made her feel so bad about herself all the time, so I didn't understand if we were supposed to root for them to end up together because I sure didn't. I liked Janelle and Vi in the second book, but not so much this one.

To be honest, I don't really like any of the characters in this trilogy that much, but still enjoyed the books. My favorite of the students was Nate, and I liked Pix and Larry a lot too (sorry if those names are wrong, I read this book months ago and don't own a copy!)

Rachel (rachelreader14) Farren, I agree that Larry was a great character! Sometimes he felt like the only adult at the school. I would also agree that Vi and Janelle were better in the first two books than in this one.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments I liked Nate and Stevie's friendship a lot too. I always laughed when they would talk together.

I agree with what y'all are saying about the other relationships too. I feel like Stevie could have just been single during all or part of the series because to me the most interesting parts were with the Alice mystery so we didn't need as much of Stevie's present-day story.

Rachel (rachelreader14) Which mystery -past or present day- did you like best?

Rachel (rachelreader14) I will be honest and say that sometimes I would skip to the next past section because that mystery so intrigued me. I should have seen the twist at the beginning of this book, but once that was in place, so many events made sense. I love how Stevie handled it in the end.

Rachel (rachelreader14) How do you think Ellingham would have handled social isolation? How about any of the characters?

Rachel (rachelreader14) How is everyone doing with this book? Is it weird to be reading about a blizzard where you are? It should be spring where i live, but we had snow last week. Anyone struggling and needing encouragement? Share your thoughts. I really enjoyed this series and was pretty satisfied with the conclusion.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments In Texas it keeps going warm and cold and warm and cold lol so I didn't mind reading about a blizzard. I already finished the book!

Sarah | 3 comments I got this series recommended on my beloved Booktube. I binge read this series and adored them all :) very fun and mostly light but got some suspense for a YA.

Rachel (rachelreader14) Ruthie - do you get much snow in Texas (where you are)? Sarah - I don't know about Booktube. I will have to check it out. I agree with you that it was good, light, fun reading (even though I would have liked David and Stevie to treat each other better).

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments Where I am we only had one "snow day" but you can't even call it that because it was a tiny bit and melted a few hours later. When I first moved her 4ish years ago, we used to have several days of snow! :( But I like reading about the snow and imagining I'm in it! lol
