Let's give a big, glam welcome to Anna, the official Paper & Glam Book Club Librarian!

Anna is an IRL Librarian at the Denver Public Library, a newlywed, and she's been reading along with us since we started turning pages together back in 2014. I'm honored she's volunteering her time for our reading sisterhood. You'll be meeting Anna during our April Book Chat!

Thank you Anna for all of these wonderful titles. Cinder (and the rest of the series) has been on my Type Awesome TBR for years! Ooo and The Selection would make a wonderful companion to The Handmaid's Tale & The Testaments.

Ana Maggie (anamaggie) | 8 comments I’m reading Glittering Court and it has similar vibes, I haven’t read Glitter yet but will read it next.
I’ve never read a book that takes place in a fantasy world so this is new.

Sarah Piper (hope5980) | 22 comments The Cinder series was wonderful! Love the "fairy tale meets cyber-world" story line.

The Selection was much better than I expected (very Bachelor-ish without being cheesy and it gets better the farther the series goes I think).

I have Red Queen on my bookshelf to read later this year but I've heard great things!

Lisamarie - thank you so much for your kind introduction! I am just so excited to be able to dedicate so much more time to the P&G book club than I have been in the past and grateful that I can help out! The Lunar Chronicles is amazing, I need to reread it so I can FINALLY read the final book and the graphic novels.

Ana - The Glittering Court series sounds like such a fun time, I need to pick it up some time soon. Maybe after this month's chat to keep the vibe going into May.

Sarah - Isn't it great? I still haven't read The Selection but I've heard good things about how it continues. Netflix just bought the rights to it so maybe I'll pick it up....eventually lol. I freaking loved Red Queen! I devoured the first three books when King's Cage came out

Ana Maggie (anamaggie) | 8 comments Yes, the Glittering Court is a Trilogy. I loved it! Next in line is Midnight Jewel and I'm extending that vibe into May. :D

Happy Book Club Eve, Glam Readers!

We'll see you LIVE on YouTube tomorrow at 6 PM PST for our April meeting of Book Club.

Here are our discussion questions for Glitter:

Ice Breaker - Are there any new releases you’re excited to read this spring?

1. What was your experience reading Glitter? How many fleur de lis ⚜️ would you rate it? There are French words in italics as well as some English words, what do you think the author or publisher's reasoning behind this emphasis was?

2. This novel examines the idea of freedom and imprisonment in a variety of ways. What do you think the author is trying to convey regarding the construct of freedom? In what ways do constraints add to and/or detract from freedom?

3. [From the Book Questions] When you put a lot of time and effort into something -- such as a hobby, relationship, tv show -- you may find it difficult to give up on that thing even when it stops being good, useful, or enjoyable. How does Danica fall prey to this with regard to her escape plan? At what point, if any, should she have chosen differently?

4. The royal courts of Kings Louis XIV - XVI were decadent and lush, but this was the very thing that led to their ultimate demise. Why do you think Pike chose this as the era for her world to highlight? How does it relate to the decadence of our own time and the direction in which we are heading (particularly pre COVID-19)?

5. What luxuries of Sonoman-Versailles would you like to enjoy? Does it seem reasonable to think that a large corporation could someday purchase an entire area and become its own self-governed microchasm?

6. Young girls often dream of being princesses and queens. What did you envision someone in this role did as a child as opposed to the reality? Danica seemed surprised at what the role entailed even though she was raised as nobility and moved to Versailles as a young girl. Based on this first book (teaser for the sequel Shatter), were you surprised at what being a princess/queen entailed. Now knowing what was expected, would you take on that role if given the opportunity?

With literary love,
Lisamarie
