Just finished this part and I miss Frodo and Sam! I know each part of the journey is important, but I miss my Samwise. I did like Treebeard, he was great. And Legolas has always been a favorite character from the movies. Some of the scenes seem to drag on and on....and on....so I wish there wasn’t so much dialogue. But, I’m excited to see what the next section has in store!
Just got to this point yesterday. I am still enjoying this book more than I thought. I do have a hard time picturing fight scenes, so the whole chapter about Helm's Deep was a bit dragging for me because I just couldn't picture it all. I think I need to watch the movie again!
I can certainly see that the time of WWII was influencing Tolkien in his writing of this. There is a feeling of foreboding and evil influences all around even when there is no actual battle going on. I thought the tree ents and treebeard in particular gave a lighter almost humorous feel to the story. I really enjoyed that part.
Overall, I think the writing is beautiful.
I liked this part of the book. When I started the book I expected to read about Sam/Frodo as well but when I think about this I like how he separated it into two books. I really liked reading about the ents and Merry and Pippin and how they took Isengard. I'm looking forward to reading about Sam and Frodo.
Overall I think that I, at least fot now, like this book better than FOTR. I find that both the pacing is better and that is's easier to read as well.
