Thomas | 56 comments I first found out about these guys from a copy of Sergio Ramirez's excellent To Bury Our Fathers. they're a publisher who have existed since the late 80s and have mainly published world literature with a focus on writers who have experienced political persecution or censorship. so in the 80s they published quite a bit of eastern european dissident material as well as a lot of latin americans from countries with dictatorships. despite the political slant they don't seem to have had any issues with publishing formally innovative or experimental works. they apparently still exist and have a website here: http://readersinternational.org/
some of their books are still in print and can be ordered from them via amazon, and they've even got some available in ebook format. it appears that not all of their books are still in print though, as there is a much older website for them that lists a wider variety of titles: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~rea...

Almost all of these books have very few readers in english, and I'm not sure exactly why that is other than the usual problems with translated fiction, but I wonder if it might have something to do with how they've handled promotion or distribution. many of their books can be gotten second hand for quite reasonable prices online. i made a list of titles that seemed worth investigating further here, but there might be others worth checking out as well according to your taste: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
