I was just e-mailing you to see if you had any interest, and you beat me to it :) Sounds great! I have a copy, so any time in the new year is perfect. I'm looking forward to getting started, finally, with her works.
Hi Lisa! Great:) When are we starting the read? Would you all mind if we could start some time after January 11? I have a few assignments due on that date. Thanks!
Thank you! I'll still be reading other books but I probably won't be able to contribute to discussion until I submit my research proposal.
Do any of you want to create the discussion thread and post the announcement in the January 2015 thread, or would you prefer for me to do it? It's no trouble either way -- whatever's better for all of you!
Hey all! Just checking in to see if we're still on track to start reading The Joys of Motherhood, uh, yesterday... :)
I just started today! I haven't read much. Zanna, we'll still be here to discuss the book with you:)
The discussion thread is here for anyone who can't find it: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Emecheta is roughly my age, so it was interesting for me to trace her professional path. Although she received her BSc (Honours) in 1972 from the University of London, the first PhD noted is 1991, after she had taught at prestigious universities across the world! She received the Order of the British Empire in 2005.

Nigeria has no shortage of wonderful women writers, and I'm interested in exploring the works of Buchi Emecheta - a strong influence of Adichie's - in early 2015, particularly The Joys of Motherhood. I'd love some reading company!
