Tanya (bookaholic22) | 1072 comments Hi Everyone!

I’ve been in a reading slump on and off for about four years now.

Every book that I try, doesn’t seem to catch my attention.

Please could you recommend me your best reading slump books. All genres except Erotica and Horror.

Thanks in advance,

Tanya

JAKe Hatmacher (jakehatmacher) You could try Last of The Mohicans, Heart of The Country, or one of mine.

Hi! Reading slumps are the worst. I like to ask a couple questions before recommending titles...if you don't mind answering them :)

How do you want to feel while reading and then finishing this book? Sad? Happy? Content? Angry? Fulfilled? (something else?)

What are you in the mood for—Adult or YA? Fast plot or a slower plot? Do you want the focus on the characters and their development, or on the plot?

Do you enjoy classics or something published more recently? And last question: are you feeling nonfiction or fiction?

Hi :)

I wouldn’t mind answering those questions!

1) I want to feel like I’ve accomplished something and feel happy that I’ve read something great.

2) I don’t mind the genre as I used to read a variety. From the books I’ve tried, plot and fast paced books seem to work the best. I wouldn’t mind a character driven story, but they tend to be slower reads.

3) As for Non Fiction/ Fiction, Fiction would be best. However I wouldn’t mind a quick non fiction read.

Hope this helps!

Tanya

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo YA contemporary. A heartwarming story about following your passion, no matter how many challenges you face. It's character driven, but the pages fly by.

American Royals (American Royals, #1) by Katharine McGee Young Adult Alternate history. What if America had gone the way of the monarchy? It's a little long and is more character-driven than plot-driven, but it has a similar feel as The Selection and Obsidian.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren Adult Contemporary Romance. It's got a quick plot, snappy dialogue and great chemistry between the two leads.

Furiously Happy A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson NF but hilarious—she's got a madcap sense of humor and takes everything to the nth degree

I hope these help!

Bailey Grimm I just finished City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab recently and I think it would be good for getting out of a reading slump. It’s a really quick and easy read and it’s the first book in a series so you will have more to look forward too

B. Goodwin | 7 comments Still in a slump? Whether you are or you're reading like crazy, I recommend Talent. It's a quick read with lots of dramatic content.

One of the 73 reviewers said, "The author also paints a vivid and heartbreaking picture of a family struggling with the knowledge that their son has gone missing shortly after joining the military. Sandee spends much of her time at school and rehearsals because her home life has become non-existent. But she soon learns that most people are dealing with their own personal demons, and there are a few underlying mysteries sprinkled throughout the book that made me want to keep reading."

Trisha | 30284 comments I don't have any one specific book in mind, but when I'm in a slump, I typically grab anthologies - short stories that are quick. Something I can read just a few pages of then put the book back down. There is just something satisfying about finishing one of the stories (and knowing I don't have to make a huge time commitment) that seems to bump me out of a slump.

I wish you luck, slumps are the worst!!
