Place for ideas for reads may/June. If we have enough we can do a poll or otherwise can just read whatever we put forward :)

One thing I was thinking about doing was reading Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. Someone also recommended Braiding Sweet grass by Robin Wall Zimmerer.

Claire (claire-m-90) | 50 comments When I look up Leaves of Grass I can't find a proper synopsis. Is it poetry or nature writing?

It's poetry definitely, my copy says it's a copy as originally published

Claire (claire-m-90) | 50 comments I dont mind reading Leaves of Grass. I'm struggling to find a good edition of it though.

Have a look at these for me.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leaves-Grass...

This is a complete collection but check the contents page for me and see if its all there for Leaves of Grass.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Poe...

Either of these any good?

I think it's the first one. Mine has a different cover but is 'the 1855 original edition'. We may have different forewords and illustrations but the poetry part should be same

Ok I'm happy to do Leaves of Grass then if you are :)

yeah that sounds lovely - have been meaning to read it for ages, be nice to read some poetry too. It looks like there are loads of yt videos where various people have read it aloud if that's better for you too. I might do both

No I haven't :(
Yeah I imagine it's an amazing experience.

I'd like to read it all too but I can't see myself reading it in big chunks just a bit at a time lol.

I just realised I stated reading Leaves of Grass without setting up a page! What do you reckon, one big page and anything goes or try to break it up. Its tricky because they don't have titles but the first two poems are by far the longest so could do those two separately and then a page for the rest. Alternatively it's not like you can spoil a poem so a big page is fine for me.

I might also try to find a set of poetry question prompts to help with discussion.

Claire (claire-m-90) | 50 comments I don't mind one big page either.
